Most shops handle half a prom outfit. Suite 414 in Coddingtown Mall handles both. The gown side, A Touch of Class, shares that address with The Tuxedo Gallery, which rents through Jim’s Formal Wear and keeps its rental stock on site rather than ordering everything in. If you are outfitting a couple, or a quince court of a dozen, that is one stop instead of two.
The store’s own booking page lists the address as 414 Coddingtown Mall, “down by the blue wall.” That is the direction you need once you are inside the mall, because the storefront reads as menswear from the concourse.
What it carries
A Touch of Class appears on the official retailer locators for two prom labels: Clarisse and Dave & Johnny. On its own Facebook page, the shop describes itself as now specializing in quinceañera dresses at Coddingtown, and its listings note bilingual staff and quinceañera regalia added alongside the tuxedo and suit business. The wedding-gown side of the business closed and moved online, with gown pickups relocated down to the Tuxedo Gallery space. So this is not a bridal salon that happens to keep a prom rack. It is a formalwear counter built around quince, prom and rentals.
Because the dress operation has changed shape in the past couple of years, call before you drive in from Cloverdale, Sonoma or the coast, and ask what is physically on the floor in your size. The old atouchofclassbridal.com address no longer belongs to the business — the domain now serves an unrelated offshore gambling site — so do not judge the stock from what turns up in a search.
The mall, and who shops it
Coddingtown opened in 1962 at Guerneville Road and Range Avenue in northwest Santa Rosa, built by Hugh Codding and still owned by Codding Enterprises — one of the few remaining malls in California that answers to a local family rather than a REIT. The rotating googie sign at the east end faces Highway 101, which is how most people find the parking lot. Anchors are Macy’s, JCPenney, Target, Nordstrom Rack and Whole Foods, so shoes, a bra that works under a low back, and dinner are all inside the same building as the dress.
Piner High, on Fulton Road, is the closest high school to the mall. Santa Rosa High on Mendocino Avenue, Montgomery on Hahman Drive, Maria Carrillo on Montecito Boulevard and Elsie Allen on Bellevue Avenue are all a short drive across town, and Cardinal Newman and Roseland University Prep pull from the same city. The reach runs south too: the tuxedo side has posted about Casa Grande’s prom fashion show, which puts Petaluma students in this store.
Petaluma is also where the nearest comparable shop sits — Bliss Bridal & Black Tie on Petaluma Boulevard North, about twenty miles down 101, open since 1988 and doing gowns and tuxedos under one roof as well. North of Santa Rosa, there is effectively nothing until you are out of the county.
Practical notes
- Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Open Wednesday and Thursday from 11, Friday from 10, Saturday from 10, and Sunday afternoons, per the shop’s own booking page — worth reconfirming in March.
- Appointments are booked online, and the booking policy asks that you bring three or four people, six at the outside.
- Parking is a surface lot, free, and only bad the weekend before a dance.
