Prom, homecoming and pageant gowns are sold from their own space at 4701 N University, which the shop describes as just steps down from the bridal store. Same phone number, same 4700 block of North University in central Illinois — the block that also holds the Metro Centre, the 166,290-square-foot center that opened in 1972 and has been one of Peoria’s steadier retail addresses. If a junior tells you to meet her at Cloud Nine, ask which door.
No appointment. That changes how you plan the trip.
Most formalwear shops this size book you a slot. Cloud Nine Prom does not. It is walk-in only and first come, first served: you arrive, fill out a short information form, and get matched to a fitting room when one opens, then a stylist works with you. The practical consequence is timing. A Saturday in March with three carloads of girls from the same school ahead of you is a wait; a Thursday evening in October is not. The shop’s posted hours — noon openings on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10 to 5 on Saturday, closed Wednesday and Sunday — shift seasonally, so call the number before driving in from Canton or Chillicothe.
Prices and the fine print
- Prom gowns run roughly $150 to $1,000, per the store’s own FAQ. Homecoming dresses run $90 to $580.
- Dresses are in stock and go home the same day. Select styles and sizes can be special ordered.
- Verified designer lines here include Alyce Paris, Amarra, Faviana, Johnathan Kayne and Jovani.
- No in-house alterations. The shop refers customers to local seamstresses, which means you are managing a second appointment and a second bill. Build that into the calendar.
- All sales are final. Try the gown on carefully and look it over before you pay.

Who actually shops here
Richwoods High School sits on the same street, less than two miles north at 6301 N University, and Peoria Notre Dame is just east on Sheridan Road. Between those two and Peoria High, Manual and Peoria Heights, plus Dunlap to the northwest and the Tazewell and Woodford County schools across the river — Morton, Washington Community, Metamora, Pekin, East Peoria — the store sits inside a dense cluster of proms rather than serving one town. The smaller county schools are the longer haul: Princeville, Elmwood, Brimfield, Farmington Central, Illini Bluffs, Illinois Valley Central. All of them are still a shorter drive than the alternative.
That alternative is mostly Bloomington-Normal, about 38 to 40 miles down I-74, or the David’s Bridal here in Peoria if you want a chain and a fitted appointment. Country Lace Bridal in Bloomington carries Faviana, so there is overlap if you want a second opinion on a designer, but you are spending 45 minutes each way to get it.
The bridal business has been in Peoria since 2011 by its own account, and the prom operation is the newer half of it, in a building it did not previously occupy. The shop claims over 1,000 gowns in the prom store. That is a self-reported number, and it is the kind of thing worth verifying with your own eyes on a weekday afternoon before you commit a Saturday to it.
