The shop recommends Monday through Thursday. Weekend waits for a fitting room can reach one to two hours in peak homecoming weeks, and spring prom season runs the same way.
The tailor is Pedro Bautista, Lucia's brother, who took up tailoring to help his mother and sister and is introduced by the store as the steady hand behind the fit. With no returns, bring whoever gets a vote to the fitting room.
Friends are encouraged. The store invites shoppers to bring their "hype girls," and the fitting rooms are built for a small audience: curtains for the reveal, lots of seating and good light.
A Hillsboro family business, rebuilt downtown
Lucia Nguyen grew up in her mother's clothing boutique in Hillsboro, where her mother sold traditional clothing as well as bridal, prom and quinceañera gowns. OPB reported in 2022 that Nguyen worked and saved for years so she could open her own dress shop without loans, and that its grand opening was held in August 2021, with the mayor, her former elementary school principal, cutting the ribbon. Both she and her husband worked two jobs while they saved.

That is Lucia. Five months after opening, the building burned in the January 2022 downtown fire. OPB covered how the Hillsboro Downtown Partnership found her a temporary storefront nearby, and the store credits the community with helping it rebuild. Today the business has grown into the formal and quince locations plus a sister bridal shop, Emmanuel's Bridal.
That history is part of why local families know the name. Students from Hillsboro High, Glencoe, Century and Liberty all have the shop in their own downtown, and Forest Grove families come in on the Tualatin Valley Highway. The MAX Blue Line ends a stop past downtown Hillsboro, so shoppers from Beaverton or farther in along the line can make the trip by train. The quinceañera store deserves one line of its own, because it is a real second business: gowns hand-selected by Lucia, tiaras, petticoats and dama dresses, and formalwear for chambelanes, with a recommendation to order a quince gown eight to twelve months out.
