You can walk into Georgie on a Saturday with no plan at all and leave with a prom dress. That is the first thing to know about this south Tyler shop. Wedding gowns, tuxedos and Rose Festival gowns all run on a booking calendar here. Prom and homecoming do not. The racks are open whenever the doors are, and the staff would rather you just show up.
The second thing to know is the name. Until spring 2026 this was Jarvis Couture, so you may still know it by that name. On April 1, 2026, the shop announced on its own Instagram that Jarvis Couture is now Georgie Bridal and Formal. The storefront in Swann's Plaza on Old Jacksonville Highway stayed put, so if you remember the old sign, you already know where you are going.
How big the prom floor actually is
Georgie's site names it the largest bridal shop in Tyler, and its prom page makes a similar claim for formals: the largest selection in all of East Texas. For the 2025 season the shop said it had doubled its inventory, with 800 short and long dresses to try on in store. The homepage counts more than 500 prom and homecoming styles, and new dresses arrive weekly through the season.
Georgie's prom roster mixes glam and soft:
- Ava Presley and Jessica Angel
- Colette by Daphne and Ellie Wilde
- Johnathan Kayne and Jovani
- Chandalier LA, Juliet, Kate Parker and Nox Anabel
If you already have a style number saved on your phone, phone the shop first. The shop will tell you whether it is on the rack, and it special-orders gowns it does not stock. A two-minute call can save an afternoon. Old Jacksonville Highway is the natural route in from Bullard and Jacksonville, and nobody wants to make that drive for a dress that sold out last week.
Then there is the registry, which is the reason students from Tyler High and Tyler Legacy, the two big Tyler ISD campuses, are told to shop early.
At Georgie Bridal & Formal, we register each prom dress to your school to ensure you will be the only one wearing your dress in your color.
That promise appears on the store's prom page. Notice the wording. It is your dress in your color, at your school. Someone at Whitehouse or Bullard can still buy the same style. Someone across the hall cannot. The shop's advice is to come early in the prom and homecoming seasons, while more styles are still open for your campus, and the advice holds up, because the registry only gets more crowded as the season goes on.
Tuxedos, alterations and Tyler's other gown season
Your date does not need a second stop. Georgie handles tuxedos and suits through Jim's Formal Wear and MTM Design, and you can rent or buy. The process on the store's tux page goes like this:
- Book a tuxedo or suit appointment.
- Choose from more than 40 Jim's Formal Wear suits and tuxedos, or build a custom piece with premium fabrics through MTM Design.
- Pick from hundreds of tie and vest colors and patterns, which is handy for matching a prom dress.
- Get professionally measured.
- Decide whether to rent or buy.
- Pick up the finished tux or suit 5 to 10 days before the event.
Fit is the other half of the story. Owner Georgia Harris, an East Texas native, also owns Mary's Alterations, a Tyler shop that dates back to at least 1986. The store's site says she makes sure every wedding gown, prom dress and tux fits to perfection. Mary's own site announced that it would reopen on August 3, 2026, inside Georgie on Old Jacksonville Highway. In practice, that puts the seamstresses in the same building as the prom racks. Ask about alteration timing when you buy, especially for a long beaded gown.
Tyler also has a gown season that most towns do not. The Texas Rose Festival fills the city every October, and Junior Symphony League events add their own formal calendar. Georgie asks for an appointment for Rose Festival gowns and JSL dresses, so plan those separately from a prom drop-in.
Georgie's bridal side runs on private bridal suites and appointment packages. Bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride dresses are walk-in friendly, like prom. For this guide, though, the draw is that south Tyler prom floor and the walk-in policy that comes with it. You can compare other East Texas shops listed here, and this one makes it easy to just stop by.
Georgie, Jarvis Couture and the alterations desk
How does Georgie's school registry work?
Georgie registers each prom dress to your school so no classmate can buy it in your color, though a student at another school can still buy the same style.
Is Georgie the same shop as Jarvis Couture?
Yes. The shop announced the change from Jarvis Couture to Georgie Bridal and Formal in April 2026, and it is still in Swann's Plaza on Old Jacksonville Highway.
Can Georgie alter my prom dress?
The owner also runs Mary's Alterations, which moved inside Georgie in August 2026. Ask about pricing and turnaround when you buy your dress.
