The shop is at 14 Racetrack Road NE. Choctawhatchee High School is at 110 Racetrack Road NW, the same street on the other side of the Beal Parkway split, with about 1,700 students in grades 9 through 12. For a Choctaw junior, that is not a shopping trip. It is a stop on the way home.
That proximity matters more than it sounds, because the alternatives in this part of the panhandle mean a drive: Destin and Miramar Beach to the east, Pensacola an hour west, Panama City further still. Simply Elegant is the formalwear store inside the Fort Walton Beach city limits rather than the one you plan a Saturday around.
It is a bridal salon that also does prom
Understand what you are walking into. The core of the business is weddings — the store appears on the retailer locators for Justin Alexander, Lillian West and Sincerity Bridal, and it stocks Dessy bridesmaid collections. Prom sits alongside that: Simply Elegant is listed on the official retailer locators for both Alyce Paris and Jovani, two New York evening-wear houses whose prom lines lean toward beading, structured bodices and floor-length silhouettes rather than casual short dresses.
The practical consequence of a bridal-first floor is the appointment rule, and it works in a prom shopper’s favor. The store’s own site says bridal is by appointment only, and that anyone shopping for other formalwear can walk right in. No booking, no deposit to hold a slot.
The hours are the real constraint
Posted hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11am to 5pm; Saturday, 10am to 4pm; closed Sunday; Monday by appointment only. Read that again if you work a normal schedule. Saturday is a six-hour window, and it is the only one that does not require leaving school or work early. In February and March, when Okaloosa County proms are being planned, that Saturday window is shared with brides and bridal parties. Going on a Thursday afternoon is the quieter play.
Who the trade area actually is
Beyond Choctaw, the drive is short from Fort Walton Beach High School on Hollywood Boulevard SW, roughly 1,550 students, and manageable from Niceville, Crestview coming down State Road 85, and Baker. The other half of the customer base is the bases. Eglin Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field and Duke Field together support more than 60,000 military members, civilian employees and dependents in the area, which is why a store here describes itself as special occasion and formalwear generally, not prom seasonally. Formal-dress demand in Okaloosa County does not switch off in May.
Two things worth knowing before you call
The business dates itself to 1985 and says its original owners still work with customers on the floor. Its Facebook page also claims a run of “Best Wedding Shop” wins in Emerald Coast Magazine’s readers’ poll; that is the store’s own account, not something a third party confirmed for this listing.
Second: older directory entries and an earlier version of the company’s website reference a second Simply Elegant location in Pensacola. The current site lists only the Fort Walton Beach address and the (850) 862-3334 number. Call that number before driving anywhere else.
