The Carter County shop that generations of shoppers knew as Wilma’s Dress Shop now operates as Violet’s by Dianne, and the store has said plainly on its Facebook page that it is in the same previous location under the same owner. That matters practically: brand retailer locators and old directory entries still list it as Wilma’s Dress Shop at 117 North Hord Street, and the phone is still (606) 474-5353. Anyone driving in on the strength of a search for Wilma’s should not turn around when they see a purple sign.
It is a full formalwear shop rather than a prom-only rack. The store describes itself as pageant, prom and bridal, with tuxedo rentals and casual clothing alongside. Its own site adds homecoming and bridesmaids, and notes weekly arrivals of everyday pieces.

Who drives here
Grayson is the county seat of Carter County, sitting where US 60 meets Interstate 64 at Exit 172, the same interchange that ties into KY 1 and 7 and the north end of the AA Highway. East Carter High School is three miles out Hitchins Road with roughly 680 students in grades 9 through 12; West Carter is the other side of the county in Olive Hill. Between the two schools, Kentucky Christian University’s campus on Academic Parkway, and the county fairgrounds out US 60 West, this is the shopping town for a lot of eastern Kentucky households who otherwise point the car toward Ashland.
That Ashland trip is the alternative, about 21 miles east: Lara’s Bridals & Formals, Kristen’s Formal Dresses out State Route 5, and the Windsor in Ashland Town Center. A Grayson or Olive Hill family can skip all of it. For anyone coming from farther west on I-64 or down the AA, this is the last real gown shop before the Ashland–Huntington sprawl.
Practical notes
The shop says walk-ins are welcome and encourages bringing guests to a bridal appointment. Bridal gowns are not rented, but discounted sample gowns are sold off the floor. Some dresses are special order, so a late-season shopper should ask about timeframe before falling for something.
