The prom side of this store runs on the opposite calendar from the town around it. Sea Isle City holds roughly 2,100 year-round residents and swells toward 40,000 in July. Groovy Girlz spends that summer selling hair wraps, hair tinsel and Sunday princess appointments for small kids, and then, once the island empties out, brings in the prom gowns — the store’s own listings say the curated prom selection starts in December.
So the room that is full of eight-year-olds at a glam bar in August is the room a junior from Cape May County tries on a La Femme in February.
What the store actually is
A boutique first, a prom shop second. Groovy Girlz opened in 2008 at 3814 Landis Avenue and is family run — the Sea Isle City Chamber lists Colleen Buch as owner, working with Elizabeth Buch. Everyday stock runs from children’s sizes up through women’s 2XL, including a tweener range for girls between kids’ and adult sizing. Prom was added in 2022, per the Chamber’s write-up.
Three prom labels are confirmed through the designers’ own retailer locators:

That is an edited rack in a small storefront on a barrier-island main street, not a warehouse floor. Worth knowing before the drive: three labels means a specific look, and if none of the three is what you had in mind, this is a short visit.
Book it. Do not just show up.
Prom here is sold by one-on-one private appointment, in store only — no online prom ordering. The shop’s Instagram says it is appointment-only and that it reopens for the 2026 season on Easter weekend, so off-season walk-in hours are not something to count on. Appointments are booked through the store’s site, and the shop takes questions by text at (609) 374-2721. The upside of that setup is that during your appointment the gowns and the staff are yours alone.
Who shops here
Sea Isle City has no high school, and since 2012–13 it has had no school at all — it is a 100 percent sending district, with students in every grade attending Ocean City. Local seniors are Ocean City High School Red Raiders, roughly 1,190 students, alongside classmates sent in from Upper Township, Corbin City and Longport. Ocean City held its 2025 prom at the Music Pier on May 17; in 2023 it was at the Flanders Hotel. That mid-May date is the deadline that matters on this island, and it lands a couple of weeks before the town’s summer even begins.
Getting there
From the mainland there is one way in: Sea Isle Boulevard, off Garden State Parkway Exit 17, straight over the bridge and onto Landis Avenue. The interchange is only half an interchange — no southbound Parkway entrance and no northbound exit at 17 — which is why the City Council has been pushing the Turnpike Authority for a full four-way build, and why the boulevard bottlenecks on summer Saturdays. For a March dress appointment, none of that applies. You park on Landis, and the block is quiet.
