The shop’s own directions skip the street number and give you a landmark instead: Eagle Plaza, directly across State Route 66 from the high school football field. North Main Street is Route 66 through Minster, so that puts the prom floor a few hundred feet from the field where Minster plays the rest of the Midwest Athletic Conference — New Bremen, Coldwater, St. Henry, Marion Local, Versailles, Fort Recovery, New Knoxville, Parkway, Anna, Delphos St. John’s. Those ten towns are the trade area. The store also names Maria Stein, Wapakoneta, Sidney, Celina, Rockford, Van Wert and Greenville in its own service list, and it reaches across the state line into Jay County, Indiana, to Portland and Union City.
Prices and sizes, as the store publishes them
Prom dresses are listed at $199 to $700 and homecoming dresses at $80 to $300. In-stock prom and homecoming sizes run 000 to 28, which is a wider range than the racks and a broader spread than most shops this size keep on the floor. Envy is the store’s own private label; within it, the “Looks for Less” group is priced at a flat $199 in sizes XS through XL. Alyce Paris, Jessica Angel and Johnathan Kayne each list this store on their official retailer locators, and Emmy’s says it can special-order any style from a line it carries even when the sample isn’t hanging in the store.
Things worth knowing before the drive
- Prom and homecoming shoppers do not need an appointment. Brides, mothers and bridesmaid groups do — bridal appointments are blocked at 90 minutes on weekends, so a Saturday morning on the prom racks is shared with booked bridal consultations.
- Saturday is the shortest day of the week here: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. per the store’s posted hours. Tuesday and Wednesday run until 7 p.m., which is the only weeknight window that survives a school day and a practice.
- Emmy’s no longer alters prom and homecoming dresses. In-house alterations are for bridal and mothers’ gowns only. The store keeps a referral list of area seamstresses — ask for it the same day you buy, because hem-and-take-in work in these towns books up as April closes in.
- Special orders take a 60% deposit and are final sales. If the date is close, dresses can be bought straight off the rack.
- In winter, the store asks people to call (419) 628-7555 and confirm it’s open before making the drive rather than arriving to a locked door after a bad-weather morning.
Homecoming stock lands early — the store had homecoming dresses on the floor and advertised by Labor Day weekend. Prom is the longer season, and being the shop that dresses several rival schools at once is the practical reason to go early rather than in the last three weeks.
Route 66 through here is the Miami & Erie Canal corridor, and stretches of the old canal are still visible at Minster, New Bremen to the north and Fort Loramie to the south. Lake Loramie State Park is at the edge of the village, with trails that run toward New Bremen. If you’re coming from Mercer or Darke County and turning a dress trip into an afternoon in west-central Ohio, the geography cooperates.
