There is no browsing hour at 112 N Maple. The shop’s own site leads with a single instruction — “Open by Appointment Only” — and the way to get one is to text (918) 440-8061. Not call, not email. Text.
That is worth understanding before anyone drives here. Nowata had 3,517 residents at the 2020 census, and the whole county had 9,320. A store that size runs one appointment at a time, and Sweet Pea’s describes its fittings as one-on-one. Show up unannounced on a Saturday and you may find the door locked; text on a Tuesday with your school and your dance date and you get the racks to yourself.
Prom and bridal share one calendar
The verified prom labels here are Clarisse, Colette and Faviana. The store’s own listings also name Ellie Wilde on the prom side, and Mori Lee, Martin Thornburg and Enchanting by Mon Cheri for brides — its Instagram bio puts it as “Specializing in Prom and Bridal.” Practically, that means a bride trying on gowns and a junior looking for a Clarisse are drawing from the same appointment book. Winter and early spring weekends are the pinch point. Text before the calendar tightens rather than after.
Who drives here
Nowata County has five school districts, and the shop sits in the middle of them:
- Nowata — the Ironmen, at 707 W Osage Ave, minutes from the store
- Oklahoma Union — out on State Highway 10 near South Coffeyville
- South Coffeyville — up against the Kansas line
- Copan and Chelsea — the county’s two edges, west and southeast
The trade area does not stop at the county line. Sweet Pea’s has posted about a customer wearing one of its gowns to the Vinita prom, and Bartlesville is 21 miles west on US-60, roughly a half hour. Coming the other direction, US-169 runs north to the Kansas border at South Coffeyville and south from Nowata toward Tulsa, which makes this a plausible stop for families in either state who would otherwise be shopping a metro mall.
The trip itself
This is a downtown storefront in northeastern Oklahoma, not a strip-center suite — North Maple is the old commercial spine, with an optometrist’s office next door at 111. Parking is street parking, which in Nowata is not a consideration. The 1912 Nowata County Courthouse, the one property in town on the National Register, is on the same street.
On timing: prom season here is planned early. Nowata Public Schools’ news feed shows junior-class parents meeting in the first week of February to organize after-prom, which is a fair signal of when the rest of the season—gowns included—is already in motion. If the dance is in the spring, the text should go out in the winter.
