The Paisley Bride, 145 E Market St: Prom Dresses and Tuxedo Rentals Under One Roof in Lewistown

The Paisley Bride sells Amarra, Colette and Faviana prom gowns and rents Jim's Formal Wear tuxedos from one storefront east of Lewistown's Monument Square.

Both halves of a prom night can be handled at this one address. The Paisley Bride sells prom and homecoming gowns, and it is also a Jim’s Formal Wear affiliate, so the tuxedo or suit rental is measured and ordered in the same room. In a lot of towns that means two separate errands, often in two different directions. Here it is one door on East Market Street.

Three prom labels list the shop on their own retailer locators: Amarra, Colette and Faviana. Faviana’s store page for Lewistown breaks the inventory out into prom, homecoming and cocktail dresses. Mon Cheri, the house behind Colette, also carries the shop in its dealer list.

The prom rack is one part of a store that runs the full formal calendar for this corner of central Pennsylvania. According to its listings and its own site, the store also handles:

  • Wedding gowns, including Lillian West from Justin Alexander
  • Bridesmaid, mother-of and flower girl dresses
  • Quinceañera dresses
  • Tuxedo and suit rental, plus tuxedo and suit purchase
  • Veils, headpieces, jewelry, shoes, handbags and garters

The store describes its suit and tuxedo rental selection as the largest available locally — its claim, not a measured one, but it is consistent with being the Jim’s Formal Wear outlet for the area.

The location is downtown, not a strip center. The Mifflin County Courthouse stands at 1 West Market Street on Monument Square, with the 1906 Wollner Building across from it; the Paisley Bride sits a few blocks east of that square, at the 145 block, in Suite A. East End Coffee is at 18 East Market on the same street. Downtown Lewistown has been slowly refilling storefronts over the past several years — The Sentinel’s 2022 “Lewistown reborn” piece quoted Downtown Lewistown Inc.’s director on how much better the streetscape looks, and newer tenants like a record shop and a thrift store opened at the Miller Cinemas in 2024. Practically, that means street parking and a walkable trip rather than a mall lot.

Business listings put the shop’s nearby communities as Burnham, Granville, Mifflin, Milford, Port Royal and Old Port — Mifflin County plus the Juniata County river towns downstream. Reviewers on The Knot have recommended it to people in both the Lewistown and State College areas, which is a reasonable read on how far people drive for it.

Before the drive

Published hours do not agree across sources. Jim’s Formal Wear shows Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday. The Lillian West locator shows a shorter afternoon schedule on several of those days. The store’s website runs on appointments — it has a booking page covering gown shopping, bridesmaids, tux and suit rentals, and sizing. Call (717) 242-0242 and confirm the day before you go, especially in January and February when prom shopping and bridal appointments overlap.

Reviews consistently describe a small operation with the owner and her mother working the floor, and more than one mentions not being pushed toward a more expensive gown. That is the tradeoff of a shop this size: personal attention, but a smaller floor than a regional superstore, and appointments that fill during prom season.
