Most towns make you do this in three trips. The gown comes from one shop, the tuxedo from a mall counter forty minutes away, and the hem from a seamstress you found on a neighborhood app. At 312 West Jefferson Street in Waxahachie, all three happen in the same storefront. Moonlight is a Jim’s Formal Wear affiliated rental location, it sells prom and quinceañera dresses, and it does alterations in house — which means the person taking up the hem is in the building where you bought the dress.
That matters most in the two weeks before a prom, when a dress bought in February suddenly needs a strap moved and there is no time to ship anything anywhere.
What’s actually on the racks
Two prom labels are confirmed through the designers’ own retailer locators: Dave & Johnny, which is where the mid-price, wearable-again end of prom lives, and MNM Couture, which runs toward structured evening gowns of the kind that also work for a pageant or a formal. Morilee’s store finder lists Moonlight as well, for bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride dresses rather than prom.
The store’s own listings also cover quinceañera dresses and quinceañera suits, pageant dresses, flower girl dresses, shoes, tiaras and veils. In Waxahachie, that combination is not a hedge. It is the calendar. Waxahachie High School enrolls a little over 3,000 students and is roughly 40 percent Hispanic, so spring here carries prom and quince season at the same time, often in the same families.
Who drives here
Waxahachie sits in the middle of Ellis County, which is a scatter of small districts around one big one. The likely customers:
- Waxahachie High School — the largest single group, and worth knowing that WHS prom tickets go on sale February through April, and that the school has held prom at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Guests from other schools need an approved guest form on file.
- Life High School Waxahachie, the charter campus, which runs a four-day school week — that off day is a real advantage for a fitting appointment.
- Students from the smaller Ellis County towns — Maypearl, Italy, Palmer, Milford, Avalon — for whom Waxahachie is already the place you go for everything else.
- Midlothian, Red Oak and Ennis families, who can also head north toward Dallas but pass through Waxahachie first.
The alternative to shopping locally is the drive up I-35E into the Dallas prom stores, which is a bigger selection and a much longer afternoon. Whether that trade is worth it depends on how much you value being able to come back twice for fittings.

The hours published across the store’s various listings do not agree with each other on which weekdays it opens or when it closes, though every one of them shows it closed Sunday and Monday. A phone call also settles whether the size you want is in the store rather than on a designer’s site.
The address is downtown, a few blocks from the Ellis County courthouse square — the 1890s Richardsonian Romanesque building that has stood in for period Texas in films including Bonnie and Clyde and Tender Mercies. Parking is street parking, and a dress appointment on the square can be combined with lunch without moving the car. Moonlight’s Facebook page lists a $$ price range and shows a 94 percent recommendation rate across 79 reviews, which is the closest thing to a public track record the shop has posted.
