The store on Webber Street exists because of that experience. Alarcon came to the United States from Mexico and was cleaning houses when, as the Sarasota Observer reported in 2023, she drove past an empty storefront and remembered a question her three-year-old daughter Barbara had asked during a game of dress-up. She rented the space in 2014 with no business plan and named the shop for her daughter. She had been treated as though she couldn’t afford the gowns in other stores because she was Latina, so she built one aimed squarely at Florida’s Gulf Coast Latino families and hung bright-colored dresses in the window to signal it.
The part worth knowing if you’re a parent weighing the drive: it didn’t stay that way. Alarcon told the Observer her clientele shifted from mostly Latino to roughly 80% non-Latino. What stayed is how the store operates — bilingual staff, a quinceañera business running alongside the prom racks, alterations handled in house rather than farmed out, and a willingness to add or remove parts of a dress for a fee.
Brands on the prom racks
Four labels list this store on their own retailer locators: Jovani, Alyce Paris, Dave & Johnny and Tiffany Designs. That is a fairly specific mix — Jovani and Tiffany Designs cover the beaded, structured end that also does double duty on the pageant circuit, and Dave & Johnny is where the shorter and less expensive dresses tend to live. Rachel Allan’s authorized-boutique listings also name the shop for prom and quinceañera. Facebook lists the price range as $$; that is the store’s own listing, not a quoted floor and ceiling, so ask about the range before you get attached to a gown.
Tuxedos are rented here too. The store is a Jim’s Formal Wear dealer, which is a useful detail if a group wants dresses and rentals settled in one stop. Alarcon’s first-ever phone call at the store was a customer asking for olive cummerbunds, and she tracked them down through Jim’s.
Where it sits, and who it’s near
Webber Street runs east–west through midtown Sarasota, and 3576 is just off Beneva Road — residential blocks, not a mall, so parking is at the door. Note that every listing for the store, including its own site, gives the ZIP as 34239.
Sarasota High’s campus is a short drive north on the Bahia Vista side, and Riverview High is a few minutes south off Proctor. Those two are each other’s longstanding rivals and each enroll around 2,500 students, so both proms pull hard on the same small set of local shops in April and May. Booker High is north of downtown on Orange Avenue. Cardinal Mooney, Sarasota Military Academy and Pine View students are all within reasonable range, as are families driving up from Venice and North Port or down from Bradenton and Palmetto.

The store’s website now describes styling at both addresses as appointment-based, with dresses pulled in advance of your visit. Listings elsewhere still show walk-in hours with a midday closing. Call before you drive, especially in season.
