Jovani, Terani, Alyce Paris and Ava Presley all list this shop on their official retailer locators. That is the short version of why 4020 W Kennedy Blvd is worth a stop: four national prom labels, in one small storefront, on a road most of South Tampa drives every day.
Kennedy Boulevard is State Road 60, the east–west spine that runs from Memorial Highway to Channelside. The store sits on the Swann Estates stretch, in the northern part of South Tampa, between Hyde Park and the Westshore district. Keep driving west on the same road and you hit Westshore Plaza at Westshore Boulevard. This is not a mall trip. It is a storefront on a six-lane commercial road, and you park in front of it.
That corridor already has formalwear on it. Dina’s, at 4542 W Kennedy, is a tailor and boutique a few blocks west and also an authorized Jovani stockist; Esmeralda’s is over on South Dale Mabry. If a style is not here, the next place to try is minutes away, which is not true of most of Florida outside the big metros.
Who shops here
The high schools within a short drive are dense. Plant High School is on Himes Avenue south of Kennedy, with roughly 2,400 students and a long-standing rivalry with Robinson, which sits farther south on Lois Avenue. Jesuit High School is north on Himes and is all-male; Academy of the Holy Names, on Bayshore Boulevard, is girls-only from ninth grade up. Berkeley Prep and Tampa Catholic pull from the same side of town. Those schools run separate proms and separate formals, which is why one Tampa family can be dress-shopping three times in a spring.
The Tampa formal calendar starts in January
Most of the country begins gown season with prom. Tampa does not. Gasparilla runs from mid-January through the parade on the last Saturday of the month, and the krewes around it hold coronation and debutante balls — Ye Mystic Krewe has been presenting debutantes since 1947. Evening gowns move here before prom dresses do.
Prom follows. Florida proms generally run February through May, earlier than the Northeast, which means the useful shopping window is December through February, before the popular styles at each label sell out. Homecoming demand hits again in September and October; Caché’s own social page lists prom, HOCO, evening and mother-of-the-bride as its four categories.
Before you drive over
The shop keeps a light online presence — a website with its inventory, a Facebook page with a few dozen followers, and an invitation to message for styling help. Hours are not consistently published anywhere we could verify, so call (813) 442-4255 first, especially on a weekday. If you are hunting a specific style number from one of the four labels, ask on the phone whether it is in the store or would have to be ordered; order times matter more than anything else once you are inside eight weeks of a dance.
The store advertises alterations and tailoring on site. Confirm the turnaround when you buy, not after.
