Most gown shops keep bankers’ hours and expect you to burn a Saturday. This one runs the other way. The store’s own site lists Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday by appointment only. A junior at Rock Island High School can finish practice, get dropped off in Milan, try on ten dresses and be home for dinner. That schedule also means the Saturday window is the only long stretch of daylight shopping in the week, and it is four hours wide, so it fills.

Where 528 1st St W actually is
1st Street West is U.S. 67, the main artery through Milan — the road that carries you north into Rock Island and south toward Oak Grove. A block or so north of the shop, 67 bends west onto 1st Avenue West and crosses the Rock River. Interstate 280 runs through the south end of the village between the Quad City International Airport and the Centennial Expressway, so the drive from Moline, from Andalusia, or from either Iowa side of the river is short. Milan is a village of 5,097 people inside a metro of a few hundred thousand, which is the whole logic of the address: cheaper frontage than a mall, five minutes from everything. One thing worth knowing before you call: locals say MY-lan, not mih-LAHN.
What is on the racks
The verified prom and pageant labels here are Mac Duggal, Amarra, Clarisse, Faviana, Ava Presley, Jasz, Johnathan Kayne and Tiffany Designs — the mix of big-house prom names and the harder-edged pageant lines you would expect from a store with “pageant” in its own name. The shop’s prom page also lists Alyce Paris, Ashley Lauren, Rachel Allan, Primavera Couture, La Divine, Colors and Sydney’s Closet, which is a plus-size specialist, so extended sizing is part of the buy rather than an afterthought.
It is not only prom. The site breaks out bridal, bridesmaids, mother of the bride, homecoming, quinceañera, pageant and a separate little girl pageant category. Tuxedos are handled through Jim’s Formal Wear, whose retailer listing for this store also shows alterations, veils and flower girl dresses. For a shop this size in a village this size, carrying formal wear for a wedding party and a prom couple and a seven-year-old’s pageant is less a strategy than a necessity.
The season, locally
Three high schools sit within a short drive and they are wildly different sizes. Rock Island High School, which serves Milan through Rock Island–Milan District 41, enrolled 1,811 students in 2023–24 and plays in the Western Big 6. Sherrard High School, south of the village, had 456. Rockridge, out at Taylor Ridge, had 328. That spread matters if you care about not matching someone: a Rockridge senior class is small enough that one repeated dress is the whole story, and a Rock Island prom is large enough that it probably is not. Rock Island has held its prom downtown at the Stern Center in past years — a May date, in line with how Illinois proms fall, weeks later than Southern ones.
Pageant work runs on a separate calendar. The Rock Island County Fair Queen Pageant is a July event — held in 2025 at the Bartlett Performing Arts Center at Moline High School — and its winner goes on to the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen competition. Contestants shopping for that are in stores in spring and early summer, after the prom racks have been picked over.
