This stretch of Burlington County has more formalwear per square mile than almost anywhere a teenager could ask to shop. Within a short drive of 486 Route 38 East there is Jan’s Boutique on Route 70 in Cherry Hill — a two-story, 13,000-square-foot store that advertises more than 15,000 prom dresses — plus Irma’s and Aimee Michelle in Cherry Hill, Marlene’s in Collingswood, Country Way in Haddonfield and Miss to Mrs in Moorestown. Rena Elle Couture is not competing on volume. It describes itself as an intimate boutique with two floors and hundreds of gowns, built around bridal, with prom, quinceañera, evening and mother-of-the-bride hanging alongside.
What shoppers consistently describe is the browsing setup: gowns are out on open racks and you pull them yourself rather than describing a dress to a consultant and waiting. Maple Shade High School — the Wildcats, grades 7 through 12, about 940 students — is a few minutes off the highway on Frederick Avenue. Moorestown, Cinnaminson, Cherry Hill East and West, Camden Catholic on Cuthbert Boulevard and Bishop Eustace on Route 70 are all inside a fifteen-minute radius. Proms here cluster in late May and often land at Cherry Hill hotels; Cinnaminson holds its prom at the DoubleTree, and Cherry Hill East’s senior prom ticket listing put the 2026 date at Thursday, May 28. Working backward from that, the alterations crunch at a small shop with one seamstress is April into early May. Shop in February if you can.
