The Route 55 dress shop a third of a mile from Arlington High School

Crystal Boutique & Beauty Bar sits a third of a mile down Route 55 from Arlington High School, and carries Colette by Daphne and Dave & Johnny gowns.

Arlington High School’s address is 1157 Route 55. Crystal Boutique & Beauty Bar’s is 1081 Route 55, the same road, about a third of a mile west. Arlington enrolled 2,472 students in grades 9 through 12 in 2024–25 — federal school records classify it as a large suburban high school — and effectively all of them pass this address on the way in and out. For a shop that sells prom dresses, that is the single most useful fact about the location.

The second half of the name is doing real work. The Better Business Bureau lists the business under formal wear and describes it as formal wear, boutique, hair and makeup, and the bulk of its online reviews are about color, cuts and event styling rather than gowns. So it operates as two things at one address in Dutchess County, New York: racks on one side, chairs on the other. Practically, that means the dress and the hair for the same night can be handled by the same business, which is not how most prom shopping in the mid-Hudson works — the usual pattern is a boutique on the Route 9 corridor and a salon somewhere else entirely.

What’s on the racks

Two prom labels list this store on their own retailer locators:

  • Colette by Daphne — a Mon Cheri prom line whose own catalog is sorted by glitter and tulle, and whose dresses are almost entirely long.
  • Dave & Johnny — long and short styles, sold through independent stores rather than department stores.

Beyond prom, Mon Cheri’s store locator also lists the shop under Enchanting by Mon Cheri, its bridal line, and Jovani’s locator carries a page for the store as well. A Nextdoor thread asking where to buy a mother-of-the-bride dress in the area turned up this shop by name. Anyone shopping a specific designer or a specific price should confirm current stock by phone; a boutique this size rotates what it buys season to season.

Who is within range

Route 55 is the east–west spine of this part of the county. Westbound it runs toward Poughkeepsie and the Route 9 retail strip; it crosses the Taconic State Parkway just west of the school, which puts the shop within a short drive of Pleasant Valley, Union Vale and the towns north along the parkway. Eastbound it continues out toward Dover and Pawling, where the drive to any formalwear at all gets considerably longer.

Arlington is the anchor, but John Jay in Hopewell Junction, Roy C. Ketcham in Wappingers Falls and Millbrook are all reasonable drives from this door, and none of them are far enough away for the trip to need planning.

Timing and contact

Hudson Valley proms sit late in the calendar — late May and into June, weeks after Southern schools have finished theirs — which pushes the real shopping crunch into February, March and April. That is also when the salon side is booking event appointments for the same dates, so the two halves of the business compete for the same weekends.

Two phone numbers circulate for this shop. The number on file for this listing is (845) 224-7508; Mon Cheri’s retailer locator publishes (845) 471-4700. If one does not connect, the other is worth trying before assuming the store is closed.
