Jovani lists two authorized retailers in Syosset alone. One, 2 B Seen, is out on Jericho Turnpike at number 206. The other is this one, at 23 Ira Road, in the Nassau County hamlet’s downtown core — Syosset Shopping Center sits at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Ira Road, per the commercial listing for the property, close enough to the Long Island Rail Road station at Jackson and Underhill Boulevard to reach on foot. That is unusual for a prom store. Most of them are strip-center stops you drive to.
The reason two dress shops can hold a corner this small is the size of the graduating classes around it. Syosset High School, at 70 South Woods Road, enrolled 2,266 students in 2022–23, roughly 559 of them in a single graduating class. Within a short drive there are also Jericho, Plainview–Old Bethpage JFK, Hicksville, Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbor, plus the Catholic schools in Hicksville and Mineola that pull from all of them. That volume is also why the duplicate-dress conversation is a real one here rather than a marketing line, and why it is worth asking at the counter which styles have already gone to which school.
The three labels that are confirmed
Jessica Angel, Jovani and La Femme each list the Ira Road store on their own retailer locators. Jovani is designed on West 39th Street in Manhattan, about an hour in on the train from the station down the block. The shop’s own TikTok account, @askalicesyosset, posts prom stock through the season and tags Scala alongside those three, though only the first three appear on brand locators. Yelp reviewers also describe using the store for bridesmaid dresses, so the racks are not prom-only.
Timing, and the special-order problem
Long Island proms land late. Amityville Memorial’s seniors were at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury — a few minutes from Ira Road, and a venue that runs proms across five ballrooms — on a Thursday in early June. Shopping backs up from there into January and February, when the new stock is on the floor and the good sizes are still there.
One caution worth taking seriously: a Yelp reviewer describes ordering an expensive gown and still calling to chase it with prom four weeks away. Anything not physically in the store is a special order from the designer, and the answer to get in writing is the ship date, not the season. Buying off the rack removes that risk entirely.
If this store does not have it
There is no website on file, and none on the Jovani listing either, so the phone is the way in. The same brand locator puts a second store under the same name on the South Shore — Ask Alice Oceanside, 2903 Long Beach Road — which is where to try next for a size or color this one is out of. It also means the Ira Road store leaves almost no public paper trail beyond the brand locators, a social account and a set of reviews. What it is can be established. How long it has been there cannot.
