In Orleans County, Blissett's goes back generations. The shop at Main and East Center in downtown Medina has been part of the village since 1942, and prom is one of the things it does by appointment, with a stylist set aside for you rather than a free-for-all on a Saturday.
The current owner shows how deep the ties run. When Sara Flansburg took over the business at the end of 2023, the Orleans Hub noted that she had been a customer herself, coming in when she went to the prom and again when she was married. Her line to the paper was short: "Nothing is changing."
The prom collection
Blissett's lists its prom and quinceanera designers on its own site: Stella, Jasz Couture, Studio 17, Lyda/2Cute and Clarisse. The store describes the range as running from classic elegance to modern glamour, and five labels is enough to cover a senior who wants a full-length showstopper and a junior who wants something simpler, without a wall of racks to wade through.
The shop is also upfront that the floor is not the whole catalog. Not every dress is in the store, and the staff will help you find exactly what you are looking for. If you arrive with a screenshot, you are doing it right.
Blissett's writes its appointment policy to cover far more than prom.

Chester and Beatrice Blissett meet at a Rochester garment company. They marry and start a custom garment business in Albion, then add a store in Medina's Cook Building on Main Street

The shop's building sits in a downtown built from the sandstone that carries the village's name. Prom is not the only reason people walk in.

From Medina to Lockport and Batavia
Medina High School is the village's own, and the shop draws from much of Western New York's northern tier. Albion, Lyndonville and Roy-Hart are close, and families from Lockport High School and Batavia High School can be on Main Street in Medina in well under an hour. Those shoppers can pair an appointment here with lunch downtown in Medina and call it a Saturday.
