Jovani, La Femme, Faviana and Jessica Angel all list the same small storefront near Long Beach Road and Pine Street on their authorized-retailer maps. That is a designer lineup you would normally expect from a warehouse-sized prom store off an expressway exit, and here it sits on a hamlet shopping strip in the Town of Hempstead, a few doors from a bagel shop at 2941 Long Beach Road.
Straight-line, Oceanside High School on Skillman Avenue is about six-tenths of a mile from the door. The school enrolled 1,692 students in grades 9 through 12 in 2023–24, which makes the shop’s own trade area a walkable one before you count anybody driving in.
Where it is, in local terms
Long Beach Road is Oceanside’s working commercial spine, not a boutique district: a toy store, a men’s suit chain within about a quarter mile, a play cafe down the block at 2848, the Oceanside Library over on Davison Avenue. Oceanside itself is a hamlet of 32,637 people packed into 5.4 square miles of southern Nassau County, so nothing in it is far from anything else.
If a teenager is coming without a driver, Oceanside station on the Long Island Rail Road’s Long Beach Branch — Weidner Avenue and Lawson Boulevard, fare zone 7 — is about nine-tenths of a mile away. That branch also puts the shop in reach of students from Baldwin, East Rockaway, Hewlett and the Rockville Centre side without a highway involved.
Two locations, one business
The same operation runs a second store at 23 Ira Road in Syosset, which is on the other side of the county entirely — North Shore rather than South. Both addresses appear together in the business’s own Facebook and Instagram profiles. Practical upshot: if a specific Jovani or La Femme style is not on the Oceanside racks, there is a sister floor about half an hour north, and it is worth asking on the phone before you make that drive.
It is also not a formalwear-only shop. Directories list it as a women’s clothing store, and reviews of the Syosset location describe jewelry, skirts and tops alongside the gowns. Neighbors answering a Nextdoor thread about where to find Sweet 16 dresses on the South Shore pointed to Ask Alice — on Long Island, sweet sixteens are their own formal season, and they carry the racks through the fall and winter dead spots between homecoming and prom.
The Oceanside calendar runs late
This matters for timing. Oceanside High School’s senior prom has been held at the Sands in Atlantic Beach in late June — the Long Island Herald covered one that fell on June 27, two days after graduation, with the school’s all-night Dawn Delirium party afterward, funded in part by an annual student fashion show. A late-June prom does not mean late shopping. The Jovani and La Femme stock that reaches a store this size moves in spring, when every other Nassau district is already dressed, so the last-minute Oceanside senior is picking from what the earlier proms left behind.
What reviewers actually report
Coverage of this store is thin, and it is worth being straight about that. About fifteen Yelp reviews average 3.5 stars, and they split hard. The good ones describe a saleswoman sitting a shopper down and pulling styles for her, and first-time prom shoppers leaving with a dress. The bad ones describe feeling pushed — pressure toward a gown that did not fit, or a curt reception on a busy afternoon. Read that as a small floor with hands-on staff: excellent if you want someone to take over, less comfortable if you want to browse untouched. Going on a weekday rather than a Saturday in April is the obvious hedge.
