The prom request form on this shop’s website asks for your school, your graduation year and your dress size before it asks anything else. That tells you most of what you need to know about how Evaline’s works. This is a wedding store first — it runs its own bridal show off-site, at Waypoint 4180 in Canfield in recent years and at the Covelli Centre before that — and prom here is handled the way bridal is handled: by appointment, with a consultant, not by wandering a sales floor on a Saturday afternoon.
That suits some shoppers and not others. If a teenager wants to pull forty dresses off a rack unsupervised, this is the wrong trip. If she wants someone to bring her sizes in Jovani, Amarra, Mac Duggal and Terani and work through them, it is the right one. The shop’s own prom page also names Ellie Wilde and Johnathan Kayne. Alterations and steaming are done in house, which matters more for prom than people expect, since a January purchase and an April dance leave time for a fitting.
Finding it
The address is 5200 East Market Street, in a strip called The Market Place that runs from 5000 to 5200 — which is why Yelp lists the shop at 5000 and the shop lists itself at 5200. Same parking lot either way. This stretch of East Market is old Route 82, the Warren–Howland commercial corridor, and the Eastwood Mall complex sits just down the road where 422 meets 46 in Niles. Nobody in Trumbull County makes a special trip out here; you are already out here for something else.
Whose prom
Howland High School is on South Street SE, in the same 44484 ZIP, a couple of miles from the front door. John F. Kennedy Catholic and Warren G. Harding are about as close on the other side. Widen it slightly and you pick up Niles McKinley, Champion, Girard, Lakeview in Cortland, Weathersfield, LaBrae and Newton Falls — most of them inside twenty minutes. The Pennsylvania line is roughly a dozen miles east, so Brookfield and Hubbard families are already used to crossing it in the other direction for shopping, and Mercer County students do turn up on this side.
The realistic alternative is going south. Treasured Moments Bridal & Formal on Boardman-Poland Road is the other established formal shop in the Youngstown–Warren area, fifteen to twenty minutes down 680. Beyond that you are driving to Cleveland, about an hour northwest.
Hours worth knowing
Two late nights, which is the useful part when prom shopping has to happen after school:
- Monday: 12:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Thursday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Sunday: the site’s footer says by appointment; its prom page says closed. Call.
One honest note on reputation: the reviews are mixed rather than uniformly good. WeddingWire shows 3.6 out of 5 across 34 reviews and Facebook shows 74 percent recommending across 73. Nearly all of that feedback is from brides, not prom shoppers, and a wedding gown is a different transaction. Read it, but weight it accordingly.
The shop runs a separate prom and homecoming account on Instagram and keeps an early-access list for new prom arrivals. Northeast Ohio proms cluster in late April and May, and the good inventory in a store this size moves in January and February. Book early in the season rather than late.
