The address is most of the story. Buying a gown here is not a trip to a store, it is a trip to a block. The Fashion District directory puts MNM Couture at 1336, Sivalia Couture at 1330, and Couture Shop LA also at 1336 — all of them within about thirty feet of Hermz’s door. Dozens more prom shops run north up Santee toward 9th. If Hermz does not have the dress, the next three showrooms are a walk of seconds rather than a drive across town.

Jasz and Terani both list this Santee Street address on their official retailer locators. Hermz describes itself in its Yelp listing as a prom and evening dress store, and its site splits stock into prom, evening, and pageant and couture collections. The online catalog runs past a thousand listings, with prices on individual gowns ranging from roughly $320 to about $1,265. Note that the site’s top-level menu is still labeled for the 2023 season, so treat it as a sample of what the store handles, not a live inventory list. Call about a specific style before driving in for it.
The trip
- Listings show hours of 9:30 to 5:30 Monday through Saturday and 10:00 to 3:00 Sunday. That Sunday opening matters here: most Fashion District businesses run roughly 10 to 5, and weekend hours vary shop to shop.
- Street parking on Santee is thin. The district lists paid lots at 1415 Maple Ave., 1313 S. Los Angeles St., and 1229 S. Maple Ave., all within a few hundred feet.
- Metro’s Pico Station, on the A and E lines at Flower and Pico, is about half a mile west. The walk in is straight east on Pico.
- Bring cash. The Fashion District warns that some stores and parking lots take cash only, though Hermz’s listings show cards and Apple Pay.
Who is close
Santee Education Complex, at 1921 Maple Ave., is about half a mile south — those students live inside the dress district. Jefferson High in South Los Angeles, Downtown Magnets at the Roybal Learning Center on Colton Street, and the Boyle Heights schools sit within a short drive or one bus. Beyond that, this corridor pulls from across the county, because the trade-off is obvious: one parking payment buys access to ten or twenty stores.
Before you pay a deposit
Reviews for Hermz are genuinely split, and the pattern in them is worth knowing. Yelp carries 65 reviews; the favorable ones tend to name a specific salesperson who found the dress, while the critical ones cluster almost entirely on special orders — a gown ordered in that arrived late or in a different color, or alterations that were promised at the counter and disputed later.
The practical read: buying off the rack in your size is the low-risk purchase here. If you order in, get the promised delivery date and the alteration terms written on the receipt before money changes hands. That advice applies to this whole block of independent shops, not just this one.
