The shop’s own listings lead with a promise rather than a sale: one color, one style, per school, per event. Bellavita Gowns tracks which gown goes to which dance, and it will not send the same dress in the same color to the same prom twice. That guarantee is worth more here than it would be in a bigger metro. The two closest public high schools to the outlet center — New Hampstead High School on Little Neck Road and Groves High School in Garden City — are both within about five miles of the front door, and New Hampstead alone enrolls roughly 1,500 students. When one shop is the convenient option for several schools at once, a registry is the only thing standing between a junior and a hallway photo of someone else in her dress.
The store is in Suite 390 at Tanger Outlets Savannah, in Pooler, west of the city in coastal Georgia. It moved there from a smaller unit in the same center, which is why older listings and a few pages on the store’s own site still show Suite 499. Sizes run 000 to 24. Prom and homecoming are the core of it, but the racks also cover quinceañera, pageant, cocktail, mother-of-the-bride, wedding-guest, military ball and little girls’ formal. Three brands are confirmed through the designers’ own retailer locators: Ashley Lauren, Faviana and Johnathan Kayne.
It is run by a mother and daughter. Zoe Christou Welsh grew up in London in a family in the fashion trade, worked as a designer and then as a fashion photographer before the store; her daughter Emaleah Christou models and handles the store’s social side. Two people means you are likely dealing with an owner rather than seasonal help, and it also means the buying reflects one point of view instead of a corporate plan.
The drive and the trip
Tanger Savannah is directly off I-95 at exit 104. Southbound, you turn right onto Pooler Parkway; northbound, left. It is an open-air center of more than ninety-five stores, so the walk from the car to Suite 390 is outdoors and the weather is part of the plan in July and again in February. Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse is in the same center, which makes shoes a five-minute problem instead of a second trip.
Hours are Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 9 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. — open seven days, and late enough that a school-night fitting after practice is realistic. One thing to know before you dial: the store’s number is a 309 area code, not a Savannah 912. It is the correct number.
The trade area the store names for itself stretches well past Chatham County: Savannah, Pooler, Richmond Hill, Hinesville, Statesboro, Brunswick, Bluffton and Hilton Head. Hinesville is the Fort Stewart town, and Hunter Army Airfield sits inside Savannah proper, so military ball gowns are a real line of business here and not a footnote on a category list — ball season runs on the Army’s calendar, not the school district’s.
Quinceañera fittings
Prom shopping here is walk-in. Quinceañera is handled differently: the store books it as a one-hour consultation and fitting, on its own booking page, because a ball gown with a caplet or a detachable skirt takes longer to get in and out of than a prom dress. Their own instructions for that appointment:
- Wear leggings or Lycra shorts, and a top that comes on and off easily.
- Bring the shoes you plan to wear, at the heel height you will actually stand in.
- Bring any accessories already bought, so the look gets judged whole.
