La Jolie MLN is not a gown warehouse. It is a women’s clothing shop at 263 N. York Street in downtown Elmhurst that sells workwear, shoes, accessories and gifts, and that also carries prom and evening gowns from three designer houses. That combination is the thing to understand before making the drive. The formalwear racks share a floor with everything else, so the trip is closer to a boutique appointment than an afternoon of pulling forty dresses off a rail.

The address, and what is around it
York Street is the spine of Elmhurst City Centre, the downtown district that runs north from Virginia Street up toward North Avenue. The city describes the district as anchored by the ten-screen York theatre on York Street, and it sits on Metra’s Union Pacific West line, which runs express service into Chicago from the station at 128 W. 1st Street. That is a real consideration for families in Illinois’s inner western suburbs: a teenager can get here without a car. Elmhurst University, the Elmhurst Art Museum, Wilder Park and the public library are all inside the same walkable few blocks, so a dress appointment does not have to be the whole reason to come downtown.
Parking is street-and-deck downtown parking, not a mall lot. Plan on walking a block.
Whose prom this is
York Community High School is the only high school in Elmhurst District 205, and it is less than a mile from the store. IC Catholic Prep is closer still, a few blocks southwest. Elmhurst is also split at the edges: portions of the city feed Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, part of DuPage District 88 along with Addison Trail in Addison. So the shop sits inside a trade area where three or four different prom nights are being planned at once, which is worth mentioning when booking — a store this size cannot stock deep duplicates.
Families further west have other options for the same labels. Jovani’s locator puts additional Illinois stockists in Naperville, Batavia and Aurora. If the goal is volume, those are the comparison. If the goal is a short list and someone paying attention, this is the closer call.
The dress donation side of the business
This is the part of La Jolie MLN that shows up most in Elmhurst. In the 2024 season the store collected more than 100 gently used formal dresses through a community drive. For the 2025 prom season it reported donating over 25 brand-new dresses to We Pop Up Elmhurst and 11 new dresses to Dress Up District 203 Naperville, both programs that get gowns to students who would otherwise skip the night. The store has also sponsored the Dan Gibbons Twilight Trot and given to the Elmhurst Center for Performing Arts.

Third-party listings show it open Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday, with a later opening on Mondays; confirm before driving in, since prom-season hours at small shops move. The store also keeps separate guidance for homecoming, bat mitzvah and wedding-guest dressing, which is a fair indication that formalwear here runs year-round rather than spiking only in April.
One last detail, because it explains the name: the MLN is the initials of the founder’s three daughters. She started the shop after years in corporate work, and the store’s stated mission is dressing women for the moment in front of them — a job interview as readily as a prom.
