The shop opened in August 2026, which makes 2027 its first full prom season. That is unusually recent for a formalwear store, and it is the first thing worth knowing about it. The owner is Jordyn Kelley. By her own account on the store’s about page, she worked several years at another formal wear store before this one, spent years competing in pageants representing local fairs and festivals, and held the 2024 Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals state title. She had gowns custom-made for herself as a competitor before she started selling them.
That background shows up in what is on the racks. Finlyn’s is a verified Ashley Lauren and Ava Presley retailer — both brands list the store on their own retailer locators. The shop’s own designer page adds Johnathan Kayne, Portia and Scarlett, Nox Anabel and Colors Dress. It describes itself as dressing prom, pageants, homecoming and Mardi Gras balls, in that combination, which is a fair description of how the formal calendar actually runs in Calcasieu Parish rather than a list copied from a template.
The Moss Bluff address matters
The record says Lake Charles, and the mail does go to Lake Charles, but 70611 is Moss Bluff and locals call it that. It is an unincorporated census-designated place directly north of the city, named for Johnson Moss, the first sheriff of Calcasieu Parish, who bought the roughly 2,000 acres that became the community. It has voted on incorporation more than once and remains unincorporated. US 171 is its spine: the highway crosses the Calcasieu River at Moss Bluff and runs north through southwest Louisiana to the Beauregard Parish line near Ragley. Chain restaurants, dollar stores and repair shops line it. Finlyn’s sits on that stretch, in the 200 block.
Practically, this puts a formalwear store on the north side of the river for the first time in a while. The parish’s other dress shops carry Lake Charles addresses — Michael Paul’s, Rhinestone Runway and Rhinestone & Vows, Bayou A Dress For Less over on East McNeese Street. For a family in Moss Bluff, Gillis or Ragley, this one is the stop before the bridge instead of after it.
Who shops here
Sam Houston High School is the neighborhood school, about 1,190 students on Sam Houston Jones Parkway. The Broncos’ long-running rival is Westlake, across the river on the other side of Lake Charles. Moss Bluff Elementary and Moss Bluff Middle feed into it, so the shop is a mile-scale drive for a large share of the students it will dress. Sam Houston’s prom has historically fallen in spring, with the school and Louisiana State Police having staged a mock prom-night crash in the school parking lot the week of the dance. Word has traveled further east, too: a Lafayette parenting site already listed Finlyn’s among its homecoming dress options, filed under Moss Bluff.
Going in
No appointment. That is stated in a banner across every page of the store’s site, not buried in a policy page, and it is the operating difference between this shop and the appointment-based bridal-and-prom model common in the region. Hours on the contact page are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m., which means a Sunday afternoon trip is possible.
The online catalog is not the store. At last check it held ten styles, priced from $298 to $970. The gowns on the floor are the actual inventory, so calling first about a specific designer or size is reasonable. One caution: the number on the shop’s own contact page is 337-405-7824, which does not match the number carried on some directory listings, including this one. If one does not answer, try the other, or message the shop through its Instagram.
