Every prom listing from the brand carries the same two lines: "Fits true to size" and "Allow for alterations." Start with your usual formal size and plan on a hem. The brand's FAQ is a little more careful, saying fit "may vary depending on the style, fabric and silhouette." A corset back gives you room to adjust. Stretch crepe forgives a little. A fitted sequin column forgives nothing, so try it on at the shop before you settle on a size.

The size run is narrower than at some labels. Styles start at 00, and most stop at 16 or 18. A handful reach 20, 22 or 24, and only a few go to 26. The brand says "select Ava Presley styles are available in extended sizing" and that availability varies by collection and retailer. If you wear above an 18, pick a few style numbers before you book and ask the shop which ones come in your size.

The brand's own description of its look comes in three parts: unexpected color, signature prints such as florals and brocades, and statement details like corsetry, bows, crystals, dimensional florals and dramatic backs. The idea is a gown that photographs well and doesn't blend into a gym full of solid satin. Terry Costa, a retailer that carries the line, sums up the line as "sequin fits, corset tops, and high-drama trains." Fabrics run to stretch crepe, sequins, lace, satin, scuba knit, jacquard, mikado and taffeta, with pearl and hot-fix stone beading.

Price is where Ava Presley earns its place on a shortlist. Full prices on 190 long gowns at one large prom retailer show how the tags step up:

The median long gown lists for about $540, and nine in ten list at $914 or less. Ava Presley is a mid-priced label, not a couture one.

The top end is real, though. About a dozen long gowns list at $1,000 or more, and most of them sit in the 472xx style numbers, a heavily beaded group. Style 47250 is $2,363, 47253 is $2,625, and the beaded halter gown 47248, with a chiffon overskirt, is $3,358. At the other end, long gown 47035 starts at $308 and short styles go as low as $208. Terry Costa's own guide puts the label at $300 to $1,500, which covers nearly everything outside that beaded group.

The owners say they have held prices down even as tariffs rose sharply. That helps explain why the core of the line has stayed in the $400s and $500s.

Ava Presley gowns are sold through authorized retailers and boutiques across the United States. Start with the brand's store locator, which lists them, and its Premiere Stores list, which the brand says carry the best selection. Stock varies by shop, so call ahead with the style numbers you want to try.

Returns follow the shop you buy from, so ask before you pay. Budget for alterations as well. The brand recommends "an experienced formalwear seamstress," and says most of its gowns should be professionally dry cleaned, so skip the home wash after prom.

Several shops treat Ava Presley as a two-season label, with prom in spring and homecoming in fall. A few go further:

Vance Scott founded Ava Presley. His company filed the trademark in January 2016, and it was registered in April 2017 for prom, evening, homecoming and cocktail dresses. In 2021 Jennifer Strafer, who had suggested the name, joined him as a partner to rebrand the label. The brand says it is owned and operated by the two of them with a small team, and that they bring more than 30 years in the prom and social occasion business. Collections show twice a year at regional markets, from a showroom in Atlanta.

There is no celebrity record to speak of yet. The brand says it has styled dresses for country singer Emily Ann Roberts' concerts and that its pageant gowns have appeared on local and national pageant stages, without naming them. We found no press photos to confirm either.
