Majesty and Veil Couture is run by Leysa Cox and Reagan Delp Arnold, a mother and daughter who came to retail from the pageant side of the business rather than the bridal side. By their own account on the shop’s website, both held international titles with Ultimate International Miss in 2022, and both have served as local executive directors within the Miss Virginia Organization. Reagan is a two-time Miss Virginia finalist, a former dance studio owner and a choreographer; Leysa has spent decades coaching, designing and photographing pageant competitors. The store opened on May 3, 2025, according to the announcement carried by NRV News.
That background matters more than it might sound for a teenager shopping for prom in southwest Virginia. People who have spent years working the Miss Virginia system know how a gown reads from twenty rows back, how it moves when someone walks stairs in it, and which beading survives a night of being sat on. The verified label list points the same direction: Sherri Hill, Jovani, Ava Presley and Johnathan Kayne all list this store on their official retailer locators, and all four are stage-and-spotlight brands rather than department-store fare. The shop’s own site also names Amarra, La Divine, Lyda Formals and Jim Ball among its authorized partners.
The mall it sits in, and who drives to it
Suite 626 is inside Uptown Christiansburg, the enclosed mall at 782 New River Road that locals still call the New River Valley Mall. It opened in 1988 and runs about 464,000 square feet with 50-plus tenants, including Belk, Kohl’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Ulta. Its owner, RockStep Capital, describes it as the only enclosed mall within 35 miles and notes it sits within ten miles of both Virginia Tech and Radford University, a combined student population above 40,000. For a prom shopper, the practical version of that is simple: shoes, jewelry and dinner are all in the same parking lot as the gown.
The high schools in realistic driving range are spread across four counties and one city:
- Christiansburg High (Blue Demons) on Independence Boulevard, about 1,070 students, three miles from the mall
- Blacksburg High (Bruins), Christiansburg’s River Ridge District rival, about eight miles northwest
- Auburn High in Riner and Eastern Montgomery High in Elliston, the county’s two smaller schools
- Radford High, in the city just across the New River
- Pulaski County High in Dublin, roughly 1,400 students, the largest school west of here
- Floyd County High, over the mountain on Route 8
- Giles High in Pearisburg and Narrows High (Green Wave), the long drives up US 460
Two schools of that size can put a hundred girls in the same three or four dress silhouettes, which is the argument for a small shop that tracks who bought what. Whether this one keeps a school-by-school register is worth asking on the phone; it is a young store and nothing published says either way.
Pageant season runs on a different calendar than prom
The state Miss Virginia and Miss Virginia’s Teen competitions are held at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, about 35 miles northeast on I-81, in late June — the 2025 pageant ran June 26-28. Local preliminaries feed it through the fall and winter, which means competition gown shopping here overlaps with, rather than follows, the spring prom rush. The store advertises private bridal and pageant appointments separately from walk-in prom traffic, so a Saturday in March is a different store than a Tuesday in October.
