At So Sweet Boutique Formal & Prom, a prom trip starts at a hostess stand, not a fitting room. You fill out a short card with your event, your event date and your school, and that card follows you through the whole visit. Everything else about this Oviedo Mall shop is built around that card.
The store has been part of the Central Florida special-occasion scene since at least 2004. Its site claims the title of the region's largest prom, pageant, quinceañera, homecoming and formal dress boutique, with 3,000 to 4,000 dresses in the store at any time in sizes 000 to 26. Its site also cites a Certified Top 10 Prom Shop in the USA designation and more than a decade of Best Prom and Homecoming Store in Florida votes from the International Prom Association.
The registry, explained
That check-in card is what makes the store's Florida School Dress Registry possible. On qualifying in-store purchases, once an eligible dress and color are registered for your school and event, So Sweet won't sell that same dress in that same color to another girl going to the same event from your school that school year. It covers prom and homecoming, and the shop notes it may also apply to 8th grade dances, father-daughter dances and other select school events. Ask the staff about eligibility when you check out.
The registry is one reason to shop early. Once a style and color are registered, they are spoken for at your school, and the best way to get first pick is to come in before your classmates do.

Browsing time
Gowns hang by size, colors grouped within each size, each in a clear garment bag with the price on the outside. You pick your first three before styling begins.
VIP styling suite
A personal stylist takes over for roughly 45 minutes to an hour in a private suite, helping from outside the dressing room with zipping, lacing and handling the gown, and pulling more dresses once she learns your style.
Seven to ten dresses

The FAQ asks shoppers to keep groups to three, so the family viewing area stays comfortable. Dads and boyfriends have their own seating nearby.

The store holds annual Homecoming and Prom Open House events, plus designer trunk shows and collection previews, and select promotions come with free swag while supplies last.
