Twenty fitting rooms. No slogan sums up Prom Pageant Couture better than that count. The Altamonte Springs store opened in January 2023 in a 14,000-square-foot space on East Altamonte Drive, and it was built for volume from day one: racks arranged by size, multiple photo-op walls, and an inventory the shop puts at over 3,000 designer dresses. The store lays claim to being Florida's largest prom, pageant, homecoming and evening wear dress store.
The owners, Jacob and Megan, came to Central Florida from small towns in Minnesota. They say they started working together in this industry in 2015 and had dreamed of opening their own store ever since. By the end of year one, two of the biggest names in prom had taken notice.
Our first year open, we were invited to NYFW by Jovani and Sherri Hill as one of their largest stores. (What an accomplishment!)
Jacob and Megan wrote that line themselves, and the relationship shows on the floor. Sherri Hill and Jovani anchor the prom side, and the owners say they travel the country every season to pick styles and trends themselves.

Because the store is arranged by size, you can go straight to your section instead of digging through every rack. If the style you want is not in stock, the shop can order it directly from the designer. Special orders take a deposit of at least half the dress price, so bring the style number and your event date and the staff can tell you what is realistic.
For a girl who falls for one gown in January and a different one in February, that flexibility is a real perk, and it pairs naturally with layaway.
A tip from the store's own FAQ: popular designers like Sherri Hill sell out fast, so start shopping three to four months before your event. For a spring prom, that means the weeks right after winter break.
No appointments, and a layaway plan
Prom Pageant Couture is walk-in only. The FAQ is clear that no appointments are needed, so you can stop in after school with your mom and best friend and start pulling dresses. Sales associates work the floor to help each customer, and the photo areas are there for you to use. The owners say they encourage shoppers to post their try-ons on Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat.
Paying for the dress is flexible, too. The store offers a free in-store layaway plan with two options.

For a family juggling prom, senior pictures and graduation, that spreads the cost across the season.
Pageant shares the sign with prom, and the store backs that up. The store is an official sponsor of a long list of pageant systems, including Miss Florida USA and Miss Florida Teen USA, Miss Sunshine Charity, Princess America Pageant, Miss All American and Grand Iconic Miss. Pageant interview looks and little girl pageant dresses are part of the stock, so a pageant family can shop for more than one daughter at once.
Getting there from around Seminole County
For students at Lake Brantley High, the store is just a few minutes away in Altamonte Springs. Lyman High in Longwood, Lake Mary High and Winter Park High are in the neighboring suburbs, and families also come in from Sanford, Apopka and Oviedo. The owners say it is not unusual for customers to cross the state to shop here, and some come from Canada and South America. If you want to skip I-4 traffic, the store points out that the Altamonte Springs SunRail station is about a mile away.
All of that makes this a destination for prom shoppers across central Florida, not just Altamonte. Evening, cocktail and a handful of other occasions fill out the store, including a little bridal, but the name on the sign says where its heart is.
