Classy Threads is the Tuscaloosa shop that put on its own prom runway. The About page credits founder Denita Daniels with "the exciting prom extravaganza," a show of the season's newest prom dresses with area high school girls as the models. The store sits at 1800 McFarland Boulevard East, in the center the store's footer calls Midtown Mall and most locals know as Midtown Village. Prom is the first thing the homepage advertises, with a banner pointing to the latest prom styles.
Denita Daniels and a second store on the coast
Daniels built the shop on the idea that the long hunt for a formal gown could be fun instead of painful. Her About page says she "has passionately made the gown search process a fun, exciting, and sure thing." FOX10 in Mobile identified her in January 2024 as owner and CEO, in a story about Mardi Gras ball gowns.
That story was about the newer store. The menswear page describes Tuscaloosa as the first Classy Threads and a second shop in Spanish Fort as the newest, and the company now runs both. This page covers the Tuscaloosa store, which opens Monday through Saturday from 10 to 6 and Sunday from 1 to 6. The mission statement on the About page is short and blunt. It promises that the store will run every part of the business in an ethical and, in its word, "classy" way.
Eighteen prom labels, from Sherri Hill to Tease Prom
The designer filter on the online prom collection lists 18 names. Sherri Hill, Jovani, Johnathan Kayne and Ashley Lauren lead the glam end. Alyce Paris, Rachel Allan, Faviana, Portia & Scarlett, Primavera Couture, Ava Presley, Jasz Couture and Jessica Angel fill out the middle, with Aerie Couture and Cecilia Couture as smaller names. Four more belong to one family: Sydney's Closet, Johnathan Kayne for Sydney's Closet, Sydney's Prom and Tease Prom.

The size filter on that prom collection starts at 000 and runs through 36, with women's sizes from 12W listed beside the straight sizes. FOX10 quoted Daniels in 2024 putting the store's range at 000 to 32, so treat 36 as the ceiling of the catalog and ask what is in stock at the upper end before you drive in.

The online prom filter runs 000 to 36, plus women's sizes from 12W. Dashes show where a common 00 to 16 range would stop.
The store's own reviews page backs up the range in a shopper's words. One prom customer wrote that there were "so many beautiful options to choose from in every possible size," and that the staff made her prom shopping super easy. A mother wrote about finding the dress for her daughter's first prom with a consultant named Alicia.
A gown bought here can be altered here. The alterations page says the in-house service is offered only to Classy Threads customers, and that prices vary with each gown.
Homecoming queens, pageant stages and Mardi Gras balls
Prom season is one part of the year. The homecoming collection lists 13 labels, including Sherri Hill, Johnathan Kayne, Faviana and Sophia Thomas. One review on the site thanks a staff member for helping find a Homecoming Queen dress for Francis Marion High School, down in Marion, which shows how far the shop's customers travel. Pageant girls get a filter of their own, with Ashley Lauren, Johnathan Kayne, Jovani, Portia & Scarlett and Rachel Allan. A pageant customer wrote that she flew in from Savannah for gowns and won Best Dressed in all three.
There is a quinceañera collection built on Rachel Allan's lines, among them La Reina, Carmina, Alta Couture, Alianna and Charro.
