Most dress shops open at ten or eleven and want an appointment first. This one does neither. Honeybee is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with no appointment necessary, which is closer to a hardware-store schedule than a bridal-salon one. For a family in Richmond County that means you can stop on the way to work, or get a junior in and out of a fitting room on a Saturday morning before the rest of the highway strip has woken up.
The address is 476 US Highway 74 West, on the older highway frontage on the west side of Rockingham. Through traffic no longer comes past the door: the US 74 freeway bypasses Rockingham and Hamlet to the south, and that stretch was signed as Interstate 74 when the Rockingham Bypass opened on January 28, 2025. That 7.2-mile, $146 million bypass was built specifically to move drivers around the city and will eventually carry I-73/74. The practical result is that the shop sits on a road used mainly by people who live here.

Richmond County sends nearly all of its upperclassmen to one place. Richmond Senior High School, on North US Highway 1 in Rockingham, enrolls about 1,365 students in grades 10 through 12 and has been open since 1972 — the Raiders, green and gold. One big school means one big prom, and it also means the duplicate-dress question is concentrated rather than spread across four or five dances. Ask about it directly when you find something you like; a shop this close to the school is the one place with a reason to keep track.
The trade area runs outward along the highways rather than across a city. Cordova is about five miles out, Dobbins Heights eleven, Hamlet twelve, and Ellerbe thirteen, with Anson County to the west and Scotland County to the east. Rockingham itself sits at a geological seam — the old dividing line between the Piedmont and the Sandhills — and the county-seat retail is largely the chain strip and a downtown grid around the courthouse square that Our State described as quiet, with many empty storefronts. Formalwear is not something you find at the Walmart end of town.

Three prom and pageant labels list Honeybee on their official retailer locators: Alyce Paris, Ava Presley and Jasz. These are junior-formal and pageant houses, not department-store lines, so the fit and the price point are different from what you would pull off a mall rack.
The store is not prom-only, and that matters in a market this size. Its Facebook page states inclusive sizing 000 to 32 in stock, covering bridal gowns, women’s formal wear, prom, pageant and homecoming dresses, tuxes and suits to rent or purchase, plus shoes and jewelry. It is also a Jim’s Formal Wear dealer, listing tuxedo and suit rental alongside tuxedo and suit purchase, bridesmaid and flower girl dresses, mother-of dresses, veils and headpieces. A couple can be measured for a rental and shop a gown on the same trip, which is not a small thing when the alternative is two towns.

Honeybee is not a decades-old institution and does not present itself as one. The Better Business Bureau lists the LLC as having started February 16, 2022, with a file opened in July 2023 and BBB accreditation since July 28, 2023, at an A+ rating; the owner of record is Melissa Billingsley. It is also a member of the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce, which lists the shop for bridal, bridesmaid, mother, prom and homecoming dresses, shoes, jewelry and tuxedo rentals.
Practical advice for a first trip through North Carolina’s Sandhills: North Carolina proms land in April and early May, so the useful window for ordering a special size or color is late fall through January. Come on a weekday morning if you want the floor to yourself. Sunday is closed.
