The store’s own account of its history is unusually specific. In 2017, Lacey Humphreys was the first brand ambassador for Kim, the woman who started Glitter and Lace, and the boutique’s first customer. Her sister Zoey Vreeland later spent several years as an ambassador too. On August 1, 2024, Lacey, Zoey and their mother Tammy Vreeland bought the business outright, with Zoey taking over as general manager. The family already owned Evermore Bridal Boutique in Old Towne Petersburg, Virginia, which Tammy runs with her sister Rachel Hersh, so a formalwear shop an hour up the road was an adjacent purchase rather than a new venture.
The door is at the back of Governor’s Square
Governor’s Square is a small brick center of two buildings on the 9800 block of Midlothian Turnpike — US Route 60 — with roughly 22,000 square feet of retail between them. Glitter and Lace is Suite E, at the back, and the shop’s own directions tell people to turn in by the carpool sign or the Governor Square sign rather than looking for a storefront from the road. Two address quirks are worth sorting out before typing anything into a phone. The shop lists itself at 9828 while the center’s two buildings are numbered 9830 and 9840, and the mailing address reads Richmond, VA 23235 even though this is Chesterfield County on Midlothian Turnpike.
Who drives here
Chesterfield County Public Schools runs eleven high schools, and the western half of that cluster sits along or just off this same corridor: Monacan on Smoketree Drive, Midlothian High on Charter Colony Parkway, James River on James River Road, Clover Hill on Kelly Green Lane, Manchester on Bailey Bridge Road, Cosby on Fox Club Parkway. These are large schools. Midlothian High enrolled 2,048 students in 2024–25, Clover Hill 1,742, Monacan 1,644, and Midlothian counts James River and Cosby as rivals. The store publishes no dress-registry or one-gown-per-school policy on its site, which is worth asking about by phone if that matters to you.
What is on the racks
Five brands are confirmed through their own retailer locators: Amarra, Ava Presley, Clarisse, Colette and Jovani. The shop’s catalog also lists Alyce Paris, Andrea & Leo Couture, Cinderella Divine, Ellie Wilde, JVN and The Secret Dress by Alyce for prom, plus Marsoni and Rina di Montella for mothers and evening. The site does not show prices; the description the store wrote for its own Yelp page claims more than 1,000 gowns in the building. The in-stock size search on the website runs 000 through 32 and includes 14W through 32W. Tuxedos come through a partnership with JFW Suits and Tux, so a couple can be handled in one trip.
Hours are short
The schedule posted on the site is three days a week:
- Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Sunday through Wednesday, closed
Appointments are preferred and walk-ins are taken. The footer says the last appointment or walk-in goes 30 minutes before closing; the banner at the top of the site says 45, so treat the earlier number as the safe one. Booking runs through a scheduler that asks which category you are shopping — prom, homecoming, mother-of, bridal party — and the store had 2026 prom appointments open. Hours change with the season. The store also recruits students directly: a post this spring sought high schoolers to represent Glitter and Lace through the 2026 homecoming and 2027 prom seasons, the same ambassador program that produced the two sisters who now own the place.
