On a spring weekend, somewhere between 200 and 300 shoppers can be inside Atiana’s Boutique at the same moment, according to owner Sumit Tandon in a 2026 Hartford Courant feature. The Milford showroom was built for that traffic, with 53 fitting rooms and a floor plan meant to let a full house of prom shoppers browse without stepping on each other.
Atiana’s sets its mission as bringing “teen prom and special occasion fashions to a new level of choice and sophistication,” and ranks the boutique among the largest prom and social occasion resources in the state, known as a Premier Prom Superstore. It also points to a nomination as “Best of the Milford Region.” The Courant’s headline put it more simply, calling the shop a go-to place for prom season. It sits on Boston Post Road, the coastal Connecticut stretch of US 1 that links Milford with Stratford and West Haven.
How the Milford floor got this big
Tandon told the Courant he took over the business and opened his first Connecticut location inside the Connecticut Post Mall, a 2,000-square-foot space with three fitting rooms. Stores in Stamford and Trumbull malls followed. The current building runs about 35,000 square feet.

His reasoning came straight from big-box retail.
“Coming from the big box (retail) mentality, I always had the mentality of stack it high and watch it fly.”
That was Tandon speaking to the Courant, and the floor follows the idea. Instead of grouping gowns by vendor, Atiana’s hangs them by color and by size, with multiple sizes of the same style on the rack. The owner’s point was that shoppers usually arrive with a picture in their head rather than a designer name or style number, so letting them walk the color they want gets them to the right gown faster. Staff stay on the floor to pull a specific style or offer an opinion, and they typically suggest choosing about six dresses for the first round in the fitting room.
Tandon put the stock at more than 15,000 gowns, with about 10,000 dresses sold in a typical prom season.

Atiana’s prom lineup runs long, and Cinderella Divine’s Ladivine line has its own section.
A jumpsuit section, a Faviana Curves collection and a last-chance rack round out the prom side.
Sherri Hill is the top seller during prom season. Tandon called the label “the prom brand standard for several years” and said its cuts fit a wide range of builds. Shoppers who already know they want a Sherri Hill can head for that color section and expect several sizes of most styles.

Milford sits between the Bridgeport and New Haven school districts, so Shelton High, Bunnell and Stratford high schools, West Haven High, Amity Regional in Woodbridge and Hamden High are all in the store’s natural orbit, and the Courant reported regular visitors from New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont. Homecoming, sweet 16, graduation and a full quinceañera department keep the racks busy outside prom season, and the shop has a bridal side for weddings later in the year.
