Sequins first, everything else second. That has been Scala's formula for decades, ever since Beeta Grover founded the label in Los Angeles. Its owner claims October 1985 as the date the Scala name was first used, and a 2009 California Apparel News profile already credited the company with more than 24 years of dressing customers "for the prom all the way to mother of the bride." Today's signature is a fitted sheath covered edge to edge in sequins, sometimes in a print like paisley, finished with a corset bodice or a strappy open back.
The company behind it has changed. Scala Eveningwear, the original business, filed for dissolution in 2018, and the name now belongs to SC Style LLC in Rancho Cucamonga, California, which filed a new trademark application for Scala in March 2026. Newer gowns in the 61000 series have kept reaching shops since. Plan to buy through a boutique.

Scala sizes top out at 18
Most shops carry Scala in 0 to 18. Lavender Formals lists many styles in 00 to 18 or 0 to 18, and Millers' stops at 16. We found no plus line. One large seller shows sizes 20 to 24 in its menus, while every other shop we checked stops at 18. Treat anything past 18 as a question to ask, not a promise.
The shops are the best guide, so try it on there.
That ceiling matters more with this label than most. A fitted sheath covered in sequins leaves almost no room for error at the hip or bust, and a gown sewn edge to edge in beads is hard to let out. So try it on in the shop before you commit. Formal sizes don't follow the number on your jeans, and the staff will know which size to order. Then ask the seamstress what she can change before you pay.
Hand-set sequins at a mid-range price
Price is where Scala earns its spot, and most shops agree with each other. Lavender Formals lists its long Scala gowns at $358 to $568. Original tickets on Scala prom gowns at Millers' in Bradenton, Florida run up to $498. Cason Couture tags its sequin sheaths at $350 to $550, though it sells them as final sale, so those may not be full list prices. The newer 61000 series costs more: Magnolia's has style 61336 at $649.99, and Lana's Boutique in Martin, Tennessee has 61355 at $498 and 61407 at $739.

So the band runs from $350, for styles 47551 and 48938 at Cason Couture, to $739 for 61407 at Lana's. Some sellers charge more for the same style numbers, sometimes $100 to $280 more, so compare before you pay. Short dresses start lower still: Lavender Formals had style 60060 at $178.
Scala stresses handwork. The company says its gowns are beaded by hand, and some styles add hand embroidery. Retailers describe mesh side panels, fringe and a few chiffon skirts, and there are jumpsuits too, like style 60295 at Lavender Formals, for anyone who'd rather skip the gown. Back in 2009 Grover told California Apparel News the line was built on "trendy, celeb-inspired bodies with superior-quality embellished trims" and "superior fit." For prom 2009 it also launched BG Haute, a pricier division with more crystals, feathers and hand-painted silks. We found no sign that BG Haute is still made.

When new Scala dresses land in shops
Scala publishes no season calendar, so shop posting dates are the best clue. Charlotte & Emerson posted its short homecoming styles in late July 2025. Long prom gowns from the 61000 series showed up at Lana's in November 2025 and at Magnolia's in February 2026. That points to homecoming in summer and prom from November.
No special-order timing is published either. If the shop has to order your size, ask for an expected arrival date before you pay a deposit, and leave time for a seamstress after that.
Finding a shop that stocks Scala
Scala sells wholesale to boutiques, more than 800 of them around the world by the company's count. Buy from a shop you can visit or call, then ask which Scala styles are actually hanging, not just which ones the shop can order. If an unfamiliar seller is offering Scala far below the prices above, go to a shop you can reach instead.
California has the most Scala shops in our listings, with Florida next, and a few go deeper than a logo on the wall:

Returns follow the shop. Some sell Scala as final sale, Cason Couture among them, so ask before you pay. Clearance is the upside: Millers' has marked past-season Scala prom gowns from $498 down to $79.

How much does a Scala prom dress cost?
Most long Scala prom gowns list at about $350 to $600 at full price, with newer 61000-series styles reaching about $740. Short ones cost less, from about $180. Clearance racks go much lower, under $100 at Millers'.
Does Scala make short dresses for homecoming?
Yes, plenty of them, and some shops build a homecoming rack around the label. Roxanne's Couture in Scottsdale, Arizona lists short Scala dresses between about $360 and $480, while Charlotte & Emerson's fall catalog runs $258 to $348. Love a long Scala in spring? Ask whether a short version exists for the fall dance.
Does Scala make plus-size prom dresses?
Not that we found. Most retailer listings stop at size 18, and there is no separate plus line.
Is Scala still in business?
