Terani started in 1990 as a women's suit business in New York's Garment District. It moved into special-occasion wear over the following years. Founder Peter Terani is still its president, and in 2020 the company shifted its headquarters and main showroom to Los Angeles. Its catalog now spans prom, pageant, evening, cocktail and mother-of-the-bride gowns.
On Terani's own online store, most current prom styles list between about $475 and $690. A handful of simpler pieces dip lower, and the most heavily worked gowns climb past $1,000.

Where Terani sizing lands
Terani calls its fit true to size, so there's no going up two sizes here. Measure bust, waist and hips and hold them against Terani's own chart, not one from another brand.
Caught between two sizes? Terani says pick the bigger one, because a seamstress can take a gown in far more easily than let it out.
There is no separate plus label to hunt for. The extended sizes are cut inside the regular collections, and the brand's site gathers them in a Plus Size Dresses group:

The brand's range runs 00 petite through 24, and it tags a large share of its prom styles as plus-size prom dresses.
What a shop keeps on the floor is another matter.
Mermaids, beaded tulle and the Terani price spread
The brand describes itself bluntly: it "doesn't do subtle; it does spectacular." Expect fitted bodices, ornate beading and fine embroidery. Spring 2026 prom leans on beaded or embroidered tulle in mermaid and sheath shapes, with mikado, satin, crepe and shimmering fishnet mixed in.
Price tracks the handwork. The site lists 35 prom styles for Spring 2026, out of 127 styles across every line that season. The cheapest is $375. The most expensive prom gown, a beaded tulle mermaid, is $1,387.50 there, $1,388 at Couture Candy and $1,395 at Madeline's.
Watch the style code. Some shops rack the beaded GL gala and pageant gowns with prom, and those reach $2,237.50 on the brand's site. A P code means prom.
Joonam, the brand's lower-priced everyday label, comes out of the same atelier. It isn't a prom line.

Returns depend on the route. From the brand, you get 10 days after delivery for store credit or an exchange, never cash, and clearance is final. From a store, its own rules apply.
There's no counterfeit page, but the return policy says the brand can't vouch for Terani-branded gowns from auction sites, unauthorized marketplaces or discount resellers. If a seller isn't on Terani's list, walk away.
When a new Terani prom season posts
Terani sets no fixed date, but its own store shows a pattern. Spring 2026 prom styles went up on September 8, 2025. Spring 2025 followed in late October 2024, and Spring 2024 in early November 2023. Early fall of the school year before the dance is the window, so start checking in September.
