Jane Bebita ran gowns for a living before she sold them. Her own account of the work names the Miss Universe Organization, Ford Models’ Supermodel of the World competition and the Star Group’s Leading Entrepreneurial Women of the World Awards — prepping contestants for stages, cameras and competitions. That background is the shop’s organizing principle. Pageant gowns hang next to prom dresses here, and the store’s stated business covers prom, pageants, quinceañeras, Sweet 16s, bat mitzvahs and black-tie events rather than prom alone.
Where it is, and how the trip works
The shop is inside Zona Rosa, the open-air district at the northwest corner of I-29 and Barry Road in the Northland, five minutes from KCI. Zona Rosa is built as walkable streets with individual storefronts rather than an enclosed mall, which matters for a gown run: parking is in one of three free garages or the free surface lots, while the metered spaces sit on the main boulevards. Plan for a walk with a garment bag.
One caution before driving up. The store’s own site footer and the Zona Rosa directory list 7111 NW 86th Terrace, while its contact page and other listings show 7260 NW 86th Place. Both sit inside the district, but the suite is worth confirming by phone.
The hours are the real constraint
Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5. Closed Sunday and Monday. That is a five-hour window on four school days, which leaves Saturday as the only day a student can shop without leaving class early. The store extends hours February through April for prom season and asks shoppers to call for those times, and to call in bad weather — a reasonable policy for a one-woman floor in a Missouri February.
Labels
Three brands list this store on their official retailer locators: Alyce Paris, Amarra and Johnathan Kayne. Johnathan Kayne is a pageant-heavy label, which fits the room. The shop’s own designers page adds Jovani, Tarik Ediz, Primavera Couture, Ava Presley, Nicole Bakti and Sydney’s Closet/Tease Prom, the last of those a plus-size line. Styles not on the floor can be special-ordered by designer, style number, size and color once the warehouse confirms availability.
Schools in range
Park Hill High School sits on Barry Road, the same road that runs past Zona Rosa, about a mile from the district; Park Hill South is down in Riverside. Between them the two Park Hill schools enrolled roughly 3,800 students in 2023–24. Also within an easy Northland drive: Staley, Oak Park, Winnetonka and North Kansas City in the North Kansas City district, plus Liberty, Liberty North, Platte County, Smithville and Kearney. Shoppers coming from the Kansas side or south of the Missouri River are crossing the whole metro; the nearest cluster of prom retail in the other direction is in Johnson County, Kansas, near Oak Park Mall.
Policies to know before the appointment
- No returns or refunds except for manufacturer defect. Change your mind the same day, with tags on, and it becomes store credit.
- Layaway takes a 50% deposit and must be paid off in 45 days; miss the deadline and the money and the dress are both gone.
- Custom work starts with a consultation — bring photos, sketches, fabric, and the shoes you will hem to. A rendering and quote come first, then a $250 non-refundable deposit.
- Cash and major credit cards. No checks.
- Anyone trying on gowns must be 18 or with an adult, and no spray tans within a week of a fitting.
Reviewers repeatedly mention one other practice: the shop tracks which dress went to which prom so two girls do not turn up at the same dance in the same gown. For a store this size, that is a manageable promise, and it is the kind of thing a chain cannot do.
