Owner Jodi Pinske was crowned Miss Minnesota Valley in 1985, has served as a royalty director for community festivals, ran the Miss Central Minnesota pageant — first as judges’ chair, then as executive director — and is vice president of the Miss Minnesota scholarship organization. She opened The Elegant Edge in the Hutchinson Mall in early 2023 with a microloan from the Southwest Initiative Foundation, after working at Aubony Bridal downtown, whose owner trained her on site and shared inventory. She keeps her full-time work as a licensed clinical social worker. Her daughter Montana, then studying fashion merchandising, helped manage the shop from the start.
That resume explains what separates this store from a general prom rack in this part of Minnesota. Alongside the prom and short-dress categories, the shop’s own site keeps a separate section labeled White / Aquatennial / Winter Carnival — white gowns for festival royalty. That is not a novelty category in Hutchinson. The Jaycee Water Carnival crowns Miss Hutchinson and a princess at a coronation in the high school auditorium each June, and the town’s royalty then travel to parades and appearances around the state through their reign. A shop run by someone who has sat on both sides of that circuit is stocking for it on purpose.

Two things about that listing are worth knowing before you drive over. Sizes run from 00 to 24, including W sizing — Rachel Allan and Elle Wilde gowns appear at 20W, 22 and 24, not just the sample sizes. And the prices are wide: Mabel short dresses at $50 to $65, a wall of Dave & Johnny at $90, Mac Duggal and Amarra mostly $300 to $450, and a Jovani mother-of-the-bride style at $725. Much of what is posted online is marked-down stock, so treat it as a floor rather than a catalog of the current season, and call before you count on a specific style being in the store.
The trip and the timing
The mall sits on the Highway 15 South commercial strip on the south edge of town, the same stretch that holds Target and the Walmart Supercenter, so a dress appointment can be one stop out of two or three. Hutchinson is the largest city in McLeod County, about 14,600 people on the South Fork of the Crow River, at the junction where Highway 7 and Highway 22 meet Highway 15. That puts it inside a comfortable drive for students at Hutchinson, Glencoe-Silver Lake, Litchfield and Dassel-Cokato, and it is the nearest full formalwear stop for a good deal of the country west and south of the Twin Cities suburbs.
Hutchinson High School, with about 860 students in grades 9–12, holds prom in late April. The district puts Grand March at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium with doors at 6:30, then moves the dance to Crow River Winery. Grand March matters for how a dress gets chosen here: the gown is seen from a seated audience, walked in, and photographed head-on before anyone reaches the dance floor.
When it opened, the shop kept Friday-through-Sunday hours from January through April and worked by appointment the rest of the year. That is a seasonal schedule built around prom and pageant season rather than mall foot traffic, so confirm the day and time by phone before you leave, especially outside the spring.
