That greeting runs across the top of the JSK Prom and Bridal homepage, and the one-word second sentence carries the whole idea. This Mankato shop is built for walk-in prom shopping by anyone, with no appointment needed for prom and a rack of new gowns you can take home the day you find one. Its calendar is built around the dances themselves.
The shop says weekend prom hours start on Saturday, December 12. The off-season weekends are posted on its appointments page and at the store, and the team asks shoppers to email rather than call outside open hours, since the store phone is not monitored then. Someone answers email within 48 hours.
River Hills Mall sits on the east side of Mankato along Highway 22, which makes JSK a natural stop for students from Mankato East and Mankato West and from Loyola Catholic. Families from St. Peter, Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial, Waseca and Madelia come in from around south central Minnesota as well, since Mankato is where much of the region already does its shopping.
From Mountain Lake to Suite 412
JSK started in 2015 as JSK Bridal in Mountain Lake, a small town in Cottonwood County. Since then the business has moved and its focus has shifted. Today it is a special occasion boutique inside River Hills Mall in Mankato, with prom, homecoming and special occasion gowns as the main event and wedding attire back in the mix for brides and grooms. Owner Jennifer Shouse-Klassen leads a small team, and the shop puts their combined customer service experience at more than 30 years.
Every gown on the floor is new. JSK does not buy, accept or sell used or consignment dresses. Because it sells off the rack, the gowns in the store have been tried on by other shoppers, but none has been worn outside the shop or altered. What you find on the rack is what you carry out to the parking lot that day, with no order window and no waiting to see whether a dress arrives in time.

The prom and special occasion designer page runs eight names deep. Johnathan Kayne and Alyce Paris head the list, joined by Aerie Couture, Amelia Couture, Colors Dress, Cecilia Couture, Lucci Lu and Sydney's Closet. The same racks serve homecoming and other special occasions as well as prom.
Prom appointments are optional but recommended, and each one runs an hour. Groups are welcome too, and one shopper quoted on the homepage said the staff gave her group space to help each other and still helped them pick out dresses, which is about what you want when three friends come along.
Anyone who wants the store to themselves can book a private appointment outside regular hours, at least two weeks ahead and when the schedule allows. That carries a $75 non-refundable reservation fee, which goes toward the purchase if you buy a gown during the visit.

All sales are final, with no returns or exchanges, so the shop gives shoppers a few ways to think it over and spread out the cost. In order of commitment, the first is a free hold until the end of the business day, long enough to walk the mall and talk it through. Next comes a payment plan.

The third option is Buy Now, Pay Later financing through Sunbit, which requires an application and approval. Once approved, the agreement is between the shopper and Sunbit.
The shop also runs a loyalty program it calls the JSK Prom Fam. Members sign up with an email address or a phone number that takes texts and get early word on new arrivals, sales and events, plus members-only discounts. One standing perk is 5% off when you buy two or more gowns or suits priced at $200 or more, handy for sisters shopping the same season.
After the dance, shoppers are invited to upload their event photos to the store's JSK Prom Family photo album.

Is JSK open in the summer?
JSK stays closed in June and July. From May through November it opens one weekend a month on posted dates, and from December through April it is open every weekend.
Can I return a gown I bought at JSK?
No. All sales are final with no returns or exchanges, though the shop offers a same-day hold and a payment plan to give you time to decide.
