House of JonLei Atelier is set up the way a wedding salon is, with booked appointments, a consultant and room to try things on without a line outside the curtain. Prom fits into that system rather than running beside it. The shop's FAQ describes the business as full service, and prom gowns are on its list right next to evening wear, jewelry, shoes and rental tuxedos. In southern Prince George's County, that means a prom visit gets the same private hour a bride would.

The online prom collection is built around one designer, Jessica Angel, and it is deep. The online catalog runs to dozens of pages of styles, with filters for sleeve type, color and fabric that range from jersey with 3D flowers to velvet and mesh, sequins and metallic knits. Sizes on the prom filter run from 00 up through 22, alongside S through XXL for stretch styles. The catalog shows the line; the appointment is where you find out which of those styles are hanging in the shop.

For anything not in the building, the FAQ explains a loaner system. The shop can ask the designer to send a sample, and there is a $100 non-refundable fee per gown to cover shipping, which comes off the balance if you buy. That is a useful option for a shopper with one specific style picked out.

How a visit is set up

You can book on the website or call or text the shop. The request form asks for an event date and a budget, and it allows up to two guests, so plan on a parent and one friend rather than the whole group chat.

The services page lists in-house master seamstresses who handle fit and customizations, plus pressing and steaming before pickup for gowns bought at the boutique. Trunk shows and designer weekends come up through the year as well, and the events page is where they are posted.

There is also a quinceañera collection from LizLúo Quince and Fiesta, which puts the shop on the list for families planning a quince as well as a prom in the same year. Bridal gowns and special-occasion dresses for wedding families make up the other side of the business, from designers including Sophia Tolli, Nicole Spose and Christina Wu.

The location is part of the appeal. Potomac Passage runs through the waterfront at National Harbor, so a fitting can end with a walk along the river and dinner nearby. Weekday appointments are the easier choice for parking, since weekends bring visitors to the harbor from across southern Maryland and greater Washington.

The schools closest to the shop are Oxon Hill High and Potomac High, both in Oxon Hill, with Friendly High in Fort Washington and Crossland High in Temple Hills a little farther out. Suitland High in Forestville adds another large Prince George's County senior class.
