Berkshire County proms end at the Stationery Factory in Dalton or a country club, but they start with a promenade. Taconic High students walk one outside the school on Valentine Road for family and friends before anyone leaves for the venue, and the Berkshire Eagle sends a photographer. That changes what a dress has to do. It is standing still, outdoors, in afternoon light, in front of a crowd of parents with phones, before it ever reaches a dance floor.
Prom Central is the prom department of Deidre’s at 2 South Street, Suite 100 — the corner of Park Square, where South, North, East and West streets meet in downtown Pittsfield. The same address holds Deidre’s Special Day, the bridal side, and Social Butterfly, which handles occasion and daywear. Downtown Pittsfield Inc.’s business directory calls Special Day the only full-service bridal shop in Berkshire County. Deidre and Joseph Torra opened the store on Valentine’s Day 2001; the Eagle profiled them years ago when the shop sat up the block on North Street beside the Beacon Cinema.
For prom the verified labels here are La Femme and Dave & Johnny — both list this store on their own retailer locators. La Femme runs long, beaded, formal; Dave & Johnny sits lower on price and shorter on hem. What else is on the racks in any given February, only a phone call will tell you.
Who drives in
Pittsfield is the population center of the county, and the county is the whole trade area. Within a half hour of Park Square:
- Pittsfield High and Taconic — city rivals, both a few minutes from the store
- Wahconah Regional in Dalton, and Lenox Memorial, both a short run out of town
- Hoosac Valley in Cheshire, Drury and McCann Tech in North Adams, Mount Greylock in Williamstown — north county, twenty to forty minutes up the valley
- Lee, Monument Mountain in Great Barrington and Mount Everett in Sheffield — south county, coming north
The alternative is leaving the Berkshires. The nearest other La Femme retailer in Massachusetts is in Springfield, about an hour east; otherwise it is over the New York line. For a family in Sheffield or Adams, a Pittsfield fitting is the short trip.
Prom here runs late
Eagle prom coverage puts these dances at the very end of the school year, not in April. Pittsfield High was at the Stationery Factory on May 29, 2026. Monument Mountain was at the Country Club of Pittsfield on June 4. Taconic went June 9. Mount Greylock used Berkshire Hills Country Club. A Berkshire junior has a wider shopping and alterations window than a student in Georgia, and the shop’s prom traffic runs deep into spring, which also means the good sizes in a popular style are gone by then.

Deidre’s posted hours have it closed Tuesdays, open until 8 on Thursdays, and taking private appointments on Sunday mornings at 10 and noon — call to confirm, because prom-season hours move. The listing notes wheelchair access, street parking and a garage.
Because it is a full bridal shop, the practical work happens under one roof: tuxedo rental through Sarno & Sons, shoe dyeing, pressing and steaming. If a couple needs a gown and a suit for the same promenade, that is one stop rather than two towns.
