The address on most listings for this shop is out of date, including the one on this page. Central Massachusetts business coverage put the move plainly: Carbonneau Bridal and Formalwear relocated to 60 Shrewsbury St. from its West Boylston Street location, into a two-story former restaurant on the same lot as Volturno Pizza Napoletana and Wormtown Brewery. Owner Lynn Carbonneau-Reed said the larger space lets the stylists take on more clients. If you are driving over for a prom appointment, drive to Shrewsbury Street.
Parking is the first thing a Worcester parent will ask about, because Shrewsbury Street parking is famously tight. The shop answers it on its own booking page: park at Volturno, at Keller Williams, or out front. A 48-hour cancellation policy applies to appointments.
What’s on the racks for prom
Seven prom labels are confirmed through the designers’ own retailer locators: Alyce Paris, Amarra, Dave & Johnny, Faviana, Jessica Angel, Jovani and La Femme. The store’s own prom page also lists Primavera, Portia & Scarlett, Sherri Hill and Sydney’s Closet. That spread covers the fitted-and-beaded Jovani end and the more restrained Faviana and Dave & Johnny end, which matters if a school has a coverage rule to work around.
Prom and formal attire is stocked year-round rather than seasonally, so a junior who wants to look in October is not shopping a picked-over January rack. Tuxedos are available to rent or to buy in the same store — one trip for a dress and a date’s tux instead of two.
The policies worth knowing before you go
- Walk-ins are not turned away, but appointments are strongly encouraged so one stylist stays with you start to finish.
- Alterations cost extra and are not done in house; nearly every dress needs at least a hem, and the shop refers a tailor located on Shrewsbury Street itself. The seamstress is a short walk from the fitting room.
- Every purchase is final sale, including layaways and 24-hour hold deposits, with no cancellations or changes once payment is taken. Decide in the store, not in the car.
Who ends up here
Shrewsbury Street runs just off I-290, which puts the shop within a fifteen-minute drive of nearly every high school in the city: Doherty Memorial on Highland Street, Burncoat on Burncoat Street, Worcester Technical on Manny Familia Way, plus North High, South High Community School and St. Paul Diocesan. Shrewsbury High is a few miles east across Lake Quinsigamond, and Wachusett Regional in Holden pulls from five towns north of the city. For most of those families this is the closest full-service prom and bridal boutique that carries name designers rather than a mall rack.
The ownership has other Worcester addresses attached to it. Carbonneau-Reed opened the shop in 2009, bought St. Cyr Salon and Spa on Park Avenue in 2020 — now St. Cyr by Carbonneau — and is a fourth-generation Worcester small business owner from the family behind Carbonneau’s Shoe Repair on Grafton Street. Prom-day hair and a prom dress come from the same owner, at two ends of the city.
One caution: published hours differ between the shop’s contact page and its third-party listings, and the Sunday hours in particular do not agree. Call before you make the drive.
