Layali is not a novelty here. It is a store whose inventory matches its trade area: 263 styles filed under Modest on its catalog, sleeves and coverage built into the dress rather than added by a seamstress afterward.
What this means if you are shopping for prom
The prom section of Layali’s catalog holds 148 styles. Listed prices start around $205, most sit under $500, and the ceiling runs into the high $800s. But the floor is not a prom floor. It is a wedding, black-tie and mother-of-the-bride floor with prom in it, and the practical consequence is that a gown from a Beirut atelier is unlikely to walk into your gym on someone else. There are also bridesmaid and bridal-party arrangements, so this is a shop a senior might have already been inside for an older sister’s wedding.
Elmwood Park Memorial High School sits on River Drive with about 823 students, small enough that duplicate dresses get noticed. There is a second Layali location in Fairfax, Virginia, which is useful to know only in that the New Jersey number is the one that reaches this floor.
Elmwood Park is a dense borough of about 21,400 that spent most of its life named East Paterson — it voted to change the name in 1972.
