Dina Haugstatter and her daughter, Brooke, opened The Perfect Dress in 2021 with their own stressful dress-shopping memories still fresh. That detail comes from a January 2025 profile in LKN Magazine, and it shapes almost everything about how the boutique runs now. The homepage banner bills the shop as "THE # 1 SHERRI HILL RETAILER AND PROM STORE IN THE CAROLINAS," and the online catalog shows the depth behind that line: the Sherri Hill prom collection alone runs past 250 styles, before you get to Jovani, Amarra or anything else on the floor.
The store is inside the historic Merino Mill on South Main Street in downtown Mooresville. Parking is free in the lots at the front and the rear of the building, which is a relief on a February weekend when it feels like half of Iredell County is out shopping for prom at the same time.
How a visit works on the prom floor
Nobody needs to book. The boutique's FAQ is emphatic that it is a walk-in only store, and shoppers do not head straight for the racks alone.

That wait is part of the system rather than a glitch in it. The store says the point is to keep the prom floor organized and to make sure every customer gets personal attention.
Booked styling sessions do exist on the site, but they are set up for homecoming and for mothers of the bride and groom, who shop from a separate rack of Jovani, Mon Cheri, MLNY, Alexander by Daymor and Gia Franco and Feriani. Prom stays first come, first served.
The designer list is short and almost entirely prom-and-homecoming. Starting prices below are the lowest listed for each label's prom collection on the store's website in October 2026, and they will move as new stock lands.

Sherri Hill and Jovani both climb well past $1,500 at the top of their ranges, so the spread on the floor is wide. A separate TPD Boutique section on the site handles the shorter and less formal side of things: mini dresses, maxis and graduation dresses.
One style per school, and a line of its own
Shop early. That was Dina's first piece of advice in the LKN Magazine piece, and she gave two reasons. The obvious one is selection. The less obvious one is that the boutique keeps a record of every dress sold during prom season and sells each style only once per school. A second student from the same school can still buy that gown in another color, the magazine noted, but never in the same shade. For seniors at a big school like Mooresville High or Lake Norman High, getting in first means getting first claim.
The same profile introduced an exclusive prom line. Dina described taking a few of the shop's best-selling designs and modifying them to improve the overall look, with a second goal in mind.
"By creating our own line, we are able to help keep the costs down for our customers, while giving them something that no other store anywhere will have."
The calendar here starts earlier than many families expect. In October the site was already announcing that Prom 2027 styles had started arriving, with early access for anyone who shops now. In January 2025 the boutique held a two-day prom kick-off weekend with models showing the new styles, refreshments, and a prize wheel for the first 50 girls who bought a dress. Homecoming has its own live sales and a homecoming court collection in the fall.
Shoppers come from well beyond the town line. Mooresville is a Lake Norman town, and the store's reach runs south along I-77 to Hough High in Cornelius and to North Mecklenburg and Hopewell in Huntersville, and north toward South Iredell High.
