A downtown building with a story
Premiere Couture is older than its Cambridge address. According to a 2022 report from the Hometown News Group, Rosemary Williams founded the business in Brodhead in 1994, later ran it on Monroe Street in Madison, and moved it to downtown Cambridge, where she and co-owner Laura Evenson, partners since 2000, built a following. That same report covered their purchase of the former Matt Kenseth Museum on West Main Street, a familiar building in the NASCAR driver's hometown, and the shop now operates there.
The store's site describes the village as conveniently located between Madison, Janesville and Milwaukee, right on Highway 12, with free and plentiful parking downtown. For south-central Wisconsin families, that means an easy route in from Dane and Jefferson counties without fighting mall traffic.
Who shops prom in Cambridge
Cambridge High School is the hometown school. Around it sit Lake Mills, Deerfield, Marshall and Waterloo, plus Stoughton and Monona Grove high schools on the Madison side and Fort Atkinson High School to the southeast. Owner Rosemary Williams told the local paper that the shop draws brides and moms from all over the state, and the prom testimonial on the site points to the same kind of reach. Most of the building is given over to bridal. Rosemary and Laura travel to buy wedding gowns, and the shop also has suites for mothers' dresses and a suit shop, all by appointment. The prom racks are the walk-in side of the business, and the owners say they work to keep that collection stylish and affordable.
