A former teacher and school administrator runs this shop, and it shows in the prom policies. After nearly 25 years in education, the owner moved her family's bridal business from Emmetsburg to Historic Valley Junction, where Celebrations Couture debuted in fall 2024. In Emmetsburg it was called A Heavenly Celebration and worked out of a historic church reimagined as a bridal boutique. On 5th Street it sells wedding gowns, but also prom dresses, homecoming dresses and tuxedos, and the prom rules are written with students in mind.
She told the West Des Moines Chamber in a September 2024 feature that opening right at the start of homecoming season had been fun, serving young women looking for fashionable short dresses for fall formals. Prom followed that spring.
The same interview explains the tone of the place. She described a person-centered approach carried over from the classroom, and a belief that "serving customers is not about selling a product, but about crafting an unforgettable experience." Her job, as she put it, is to listen to each client's vision and offer guidance that honors their individuality. For a nervous sophomore buying a first formal, that is a comfortable kind of shop to walk into.

Not required for prom and homecoming, per the FAQ, while bridal and evening wear need a booking.
Registry by school
Each gown is logged against the buyer's school and color at checkout, which the next section covers in the store's wording.
Alterations
The shop does not alter gowns in house. Instead, its services page names independent seamstresses in Urbandale, Ames, Ankeny and Altoona, so plan the hem with one of them.
The racks carry six prom lines: Amarra, Dave and Johnny, Johnathan Kayne, Portia & Scarlett, Primavera and Rachel Allan. For homecoming, Amarra, Portia & Scarlett, Johnathan Kayne and Rachel Allan carry over with shorter styles.

Your dress will be registered at your school. We will not sell your dress in your color to anyone else attending your prom.
In the West Des Moines area, that promise covers a lot of schools. Valley High School and Dowling Catholic are both in West Des Moines. The store's mission statement aims to transform the Des Moines metro formal fashion industry with a fresh, inclusive and unique shopping experience. Inclusivity shows up in the sizing. In the chamber feature, the owner said she stocks wedding gowns in sizes 4 to 28 in store, with 50 dresses in sizes 18 to 28 ready to try. Those numbers are for bridal, so ask about the prom size run when you stop in.
The neighborhood is part of the appeal. The owner told the chamber she loves the location because there is always something going on, the foot traffic is strong, and the street has a mainstreet vibe.
