Downtown Pittsburg has a concentration of formalwear that a much larger town would envy. Rosa Bella sits at 502 N. Broadway. Sara Loree’s Bridal and Formal is at 524, the same block. Lucy’s Tux & Gown is at 604, one block up. Three shops selling gowns and tuxedos inside a two-block walk in southeast Kansas.
Rosa Bella runs on a different clock than the other two. The shop’s own listings give the hours as Saturdays 10 to 5, with weekdays by appointment. It is not a drop-in stop on a Tuesday afternoon. One call to (620) 231-2081 turns a weekday into an open store, often with nobody else in it — which, in February and March, is worth more than convenient hours.
Prom, bridal and tuxedos in the same room
The store describes itself as prom, bridal, formalwear and tuxedos, and its Facebook page cites more than 30 years in bridal and formals. It also stocks women’s clothing, home decor and gifts, so a Saturday trip can cover a gown, a rented tux for the date, and a graduation present in one stop. That combination matters in a town where the alternative is driving to a mall in another state.

Who drives here
Broadway is the spine of Pittsburg, running from downtown south to the Pittsburg State campus at 1701 S. Broadway. Rosa Bella is a block north of the 4th and Broadway corner where the Block22 buildings were rehabilitated in 2018, so the surrounding blocks now hold student housing and storefronts rather than empty windows.
Pittsburg High School, the Purple Dragons, is the only high school in USD 250 and enrolled about 1,040 students in 2023–24; its campus is out on East Fourth Street. St. Mary’s-Colgan is a few blocks away on East 9th. Frontenac and Girard sit north along the US-69 corridor, and the rest of the Cherokee-Neosho-Crawford League — Columbus, Galena, Riverton, Baxter Springs — is a short run south. Farther out, the Southeast Kansas League towns of Fort Scott, Parsons, Chanute and Labette County put Pittsburg within a reasonable drive for a shopping day.
The Joplin question
Joplin, Missouri is about 31 miles by road, roughly 45 minutes on Route 171, and Northpark Mall there serves a trade area of close to half a million people. That is the real competition, and plenty of families make the trip. The case for Broadway is that three shops on two blocks can be worked through in an afternoon without paying for parking or crossing a state line.
There is no store website on file, and social posts are how new arrivals get announced. Before driving in from Girard or Columbus, call and ask what is actually hanging in the size you need. Brand authorizations shift season to season, and a Saturday in peak prom season fills up.
