Ishpeming has two high schools of its own, which means two proms, two sets of pictures, and two waves of shopping every spring. Enchanted Bridal and Formal Wear sits in the 1500 block of North Second Street, north of the Main Street blocks downtown, and handles both sides of it: gowns on one hand, and tuxedo and suit rentals on the other. The store is one of the Marquette Iron Range shops where a family can finish the whole formalwear list in a single stop rather than splitting the trip between a dress store and a rental counter.

The trade area is compact and the schools in it are small. Ishpeming High School’s district enrolls roughly 630 students across all grades, and the MHSAA reclassified Ishpeming from Class C to Class D on February enrollment counts for 2025–26. Westwood High School, out on Westwood Drive in Ishpeming Township under the NICE Community School District, runs a little over 400 in grades 9–12. Both are minutes from Second Street.

Everyone in that list travels the same road. US 41/M-28 carries something like 13,000 to 17,000 vehicles a day through the Ishpeming–Negaunee stretch, and Business M-28 runs just under five miles off it through the two downtowns. Marquette has its own bridal and formalwear stores, so the honest case for shopping in Ishpeming is not scarcity — it is that you are not making the drive, and that alterations, pickups and a late-season fix are all in your own town.
The town around it
Ishpeming is a working mining town of roughly 6,000. The Tilden Mine, about five miles south and owned by Cleveland-Cliffs, is Michigan’s last operating iron mine after the Empire pit closed in 2016. The name comes from the Ojibwe word for “high place.” Skiing has been part of the town since the 1880s, which matters here mainly for timing: in Marquette County, prom dress shopping starts while there is still snow on the ground, and the racks are picked over by the time the roads clear.
Call before you drive out. Posted hours for small independents in the U.P. shift with the season, and this one has no reliable published schedule.
