Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights closed for good on July 1, 2024, and the site is slated for demolition and a mixed-use rebuild. For families in this part of Macomb County, that removed the obvious default for formal shopping — the mall with a couple of department stores in it. What’s left is strip retail on the big north-south roads, and Joani’s Fashion Boutique is on that stretch of Van Dyke Avenue north of 22 Mile, just above the Utica line.
It is a walk-in shop, not an appointment shop. The store’s own site says no appointment is needed and asks shoppers to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing, which tells you something about how long a real fitting takes here. Two of the six open days run late:

Those are the regular hours as the shop posts them, and it posts holiday changes on the same page, so a call to (586) 532–1555 before a long drive is not wasted. The Saturday window is narrow — five hours — and Saturday in February and March is when every junior in the district is out looking.
Joani’s is an authorized retailer for Alyce Paris and Colette, both confirmed through those brands’ own store locators. Its online catalog also lists Ellie Wilde and Montage styles. Prom gowns priced on the site run from around $200 into the $700s, with much of the Alyce Paris stock landing between $300 and $500. The shop does prom and homecoming alongside mother-of-the-bride, bridesmaids, and quinceañera dresses, and keeps a separate mother-of-the-bride clearance rack — useful to know if a mother and daughter are shopping the same trip. Business listings for the store note layaway, in-house alterations, and a willingness to work with outside alterations. Listings also state the shop has been under new ownership since 2018.
Who is actually driving here
Utica High School, at 47255 Shelby Road, sits in the same 48317 ZIP code as the store. Eisenhower High School is up at 6500 25 Mile Road in Shelby Township, a straight run north on Van Dyke. Stevenson and Henry Ford II are down in Sterling Heights; all four are part of Utica Community Schools, which runs six high schools total. Van Dyke keeps going north past 26 Mile toward Washington Township and Romeo, so the drive works from that direction too, and it works in reverse for anyone coming up from Sterling Heights rather than heading over to Somerset or Twelve Oaks.
One thing that will trip up your GPS
The store moved. Its current address is 49604 Van Dyke Ave, and its own contact page still flags that number as the new one. The Shelby Township business directory and several older listings show 49550 Van Dyke. Same strip, different door. If a map app drops you at a storefront that isn’t Joani’s, keep going a short way up the same side of Van Dyke.
