Magnolia Bridal is a wedding shop first. That is the most important thing to know before driving over, because it shapes everything about a prom trip here. The store carries Clarisse, Dave & Johnny and Terani for prom, and it is also a Jim’s Formal Wear rental dealer at the same Suite A address — so a couple can get measured for a tux and try gowns in one stop instead of two. Try-ons are by appointment. This is not a shop to walk into after school with four friends and no plan.
The corner it sits on
420 Baldwin Street is a strip center at the hard corner of Baldwin and Cottonwood Drive, in the Meijer–Aldi–Verizon stretch that does duty as Jenison’s main commercial run. Jenison itself is not a city. It is the unincorporated center of Georgetown Township in Ottawa County, on the far side of the Grand River from Grandville — about 17,300 people inside a township of roughly 55,000. The township line also takes in parts of Grandville and Hudsonville, which is a fair description of who walks in: Jenison High School on Bauer Road enrolled 1,515 students in 2024–25, and Grandville and Hudsonville students are a few minutes away in either direction.
For most families in this part of West Michigan, the default formalwear trip is east to the 44th Street and Rivertown retail corridor in Grandville, or into Grand Rapids. Magnolia is the alternative to that drive: a small appointment-based boutique on the same road as the grocery store, carrying three prom labels that the mall stores do not.
How prom season runs here
Jenison’s prom leaves town. MLive covered the 2025 dance under an “Once Upon a Time” theme with students heading into the city for it, and the district credited New Vintage Place with hosting the following year’s prom. Michigan proms sit in late April and May, weeks behind Southern schools, which puts serious dress shopping in the January-to-March window — the same stretch when a bridal-led shop is deep into wedding appointments. Book early and ask specifically what prom stock is on the floor when you call, rather than assuming a full rack in February.
Practical notes
- Phone: (616) 319-3550. Call before you drive. Online listings disagree about the shop’s current days — some show Wednesday through Sunday, 10 to 4, others Thursday through Sunday.
- Jim’s Formal Wear lists tux hours at this location as Wednesday 2–6 and Thursday by appointment, which is narrower than the dress side.
- The business is young: Morgan McRay opened it in April 2021, according to its Better Business Bureau record, and earlier reviews describe her bringing dresses to clients before there was a storefront.
- The store’s own materials lean hard on inclusive sizing, with bridal special orders quoted to size 40 and mothers’ gowns posted at $200 to $700. It publishes no prom price range, so ask.
What you get for the drive is a small room, a scheduled hour, and someone who is not managing six other appointments at once. What you give up is browsing. Decide which of those matters more to you before you pick up the phone.
