Savvi's prom store only opens when the Triangle needs it. Savvi Prom is a seasonal pop-up, a specialty division of the year-round Savvi Formalwear & Bridal, and it exists for one stretch of the calendar: the months when every high school in the Triangle is counting down to prom. When the last dance is over, the racks come down and the website posts a thank-you to shoppers for the season. The shop is locally owned and operated, and it sits on Glenwood Avenue in northwest Raleigh, along the U.S. 70 stretch where most families out this way already run errands.
The store is not shy about its reputation. Its About page thanks shoppers from Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Fuquay, Apex, Wake Forest, Greenville, Garner and Smithfield for voting it the number one prom gown and tuxedo shop in North Carolina. That list of towns maps its reach. Leesville Road, Sanderson and Broughton students are close enough to stop in after school, and families from Green Hope, Panther Creek and the Durham side of the Triangle come in on weekends.

That means a plus-size junior can try on real gowns instead of guessing from a sample. The FAQ is also unusually useful on fit. If your bust measures one size and your waist another, the store says to buy the larger size and have the rest taken in. It is far easier to take a gown in than to let one out, and that one rule saves a lot of prom-season panic. Most gowns run 57 to 60 inches from the hollow of the collarbone to the hem, and anyone standing 5'10" or taller in her prom heels is invited to call before ordering.
