You don't need an appointment to shop prom at Gia Bridal & Formal. That's a real convenience, and it makes Gia one of the easiest places in Schuylkill County to drop in after school, try on a few styles and see what works. The shop has deep roots. It was established in 1987 as Special Moments Bridal Shop, and Gerri Inama grew it from a small dress business into a store that could outfit anyone for any special occasion. After decades at the helm, she decided to step away and spend more time with her family. She wanted the tradition to live on, so she sold the business to Lindsay Giammaresi, a Schuylkill County native with a vision to pour back into the small town she grew up in.
The handoff kept the core intact. Two original staff members stayed on, and by its own account the shop is proudest of the customers who shopped there first for prom and later for their weddings, or their children's weddings. For the Giammaresis, "the dress shop" is a family endeavor.
The prom collection
Gia's prom racks lean toward the current and the dramatic. Its designer lineup includes Ellie Wilde, Colette by Daphne and Tiffany Designs, alongside Amelia Couture, Nox Anabel and Lydia J. Graham. The shop's own description name-checks the looks it's built for: a glittering metallic mermaid, a playful satin A-line, a dramatic ballgown, plus bold cutouts, unique textures and bright colors.
Homecoming has its own collection, mostly short styles from Amelia Couture and Nox Anabel. And because Gia always keeps social occasion dresses in stock, it's also a stop for pageant contestants and anyone heading to a winter formal. Not every style on the website is in the store at any moment, and the site has two small tips for a faster walk-in visit.

The consultants themselves are a friendly, close-knit crew, and the team page introduces each of them with a line or two about their families, their dogs and their kayaks.

Students from Schuylkill Haven Area, Blue Mountain and Pottsville Area have the shortest trip, and girls from Nativity BVM, Minersville Area, Pine Grove Area and Tamaqua Area come in from across the county. The shop sits out on Long Run Road, so put it in your phone before you leave.

The real advantage at Gia is what happens after you pick the dress. The shop has an in-house seamstress, Martina, with more than two decades of experience. The team's own bio calls her "an absolute expert in her craft" and jokes that she may be more well known than Special Moments itself. She works out of the shop, sets her own pricing and schedule, and the staff help coordinate the process from start to finish. She'll also take on outside gowns, with limited appointments and a small out-of-store fee.
For a prom date, the tuxedo side is just as organized. Gia measures in the store and follows through until the day of the event.
